Cams are not easy to identify for obvious reasons...but if you think it's worth posting pics along with measurements and specs of the cams you're using, give it a shot.



I have these cams, they came in a head I bought. The guy said they were aftermarket and he did not know what kind... does anyone reconize these markings? Thank you very much for any help you can give, I want to sell them but I do not know what they are.

Thanks for the help, now if I can get some pics of the 60 trim turbo maybe I can figure out what it actually is. I got this car in a trade from a friend and he had picked it up from someone with no documentation of what was actually in it. Anyway, thanks.

I say stock but i have seen alot of Delta regrinds, all i can say is hows it idle, smooth? lopey? if its a smooth stock like idle then more than sure stock.

DKS makes hks spec'd regrinds that look stock. Do a compression test, if all the numbers are low it could be a indication.

I just bought a set of lightly used BC 272's myself, and mine are stamped BC101 as well, as opposed to BC0101... hmmm

so can anyone tell me if these are Brian Crower 272 cams? i have intake AND exhaust cams.

pix of bc 272? there are other markings

"1" "ES 4604" "D1" "G" and on the other side of where it says BC101-EX is says "DIK9" thats on the exhaust cam

Intake CAM: from sensor end up to the cam gear "2" "ES4604" "D1" "G" (the BC logo i think) then it says "BC101-IN

can someone verify?

Verify what? The part number is right there on the cam. It just doesn't get any clearer.

Regarding the need for springs- search around the site and see what other 272 cam users are running.

i was asking about if it needed upgraded valve springs and ratainers so i could have other people that are Running BC 272s to come here and tell me.... thanks for the "use the search" reply, question still stands...can you run stock valve springs and retainers or is there need for upgrade?

BC recommends you upgrade your valvesprings and retainers with the 272 cams to prevent high-rpm valvefloat, but it's not NEEDED, no.

I run a stock valvetrain with my bc 272's. You want to upgrade spring and retainer based off how high you are going to be reving i have my rev limit set a 7500.

Yeah, I think they recommend upgraded springs/retainers if you're going to be revving over 8000-8500rpm.

BC0101 272°/272 Street/Strip Specification

since this has been resolved (i think) but i dont want to make another thread... does anyone know if these BC 272s need adjustable cam gears? i dont wanna mess up my fresh build. so far i got that stock valve springs and retainers are OK... now jus needa know bout dem gears

So I recently bought a 90 talon tsi manual, and was given receipts for a "new" used machined head. I have the motor out to replace some things and took the valve cover off to inspect it. I noticed i have two different cams, the exhaust cam has "A" and "A 1" sideways stamped into it by the cam gear as well as "E" and some numbers towards the CAS end. and the intake cam has no markings near the gear only an "R7" and "0" near the CAS. I am posting pictures so hopefully someone can tell me if these are the stock cams or what car they came out of. Thank you!

Stock unless they are regrinds, way to tell a regrind pull the cam gears off and see if it has a number like 272 or 264 etched into it.

You dont necessarily HAVE to have gears, but your car will run better and make more power if you have the ability to degree the cams because the aftermarket cams arent always machined perfectly and can be a few degrees off. Couple this with a resurfaced head and or engine block, and headgaskets of varying thicknesses and your timing geometry will be far from perfect. There are also people who believe in using the gears to dial in the cams without actually degreeing them in order to optimise specifically for their setup.

OK I have 2 sets of cams one set has no markings on it except a 27 and then behind can gears 272 is scratched into it but no brand anywhere. The other set has a b in one spot and a g in another but no markings saying a duration. Any ideas on this
