Cams are not easy to identify for obvious reasons...but if you think it's worth posting pics along with measurements and specs of the cams you're using, give it a shot.



I have these cams, they came in a head I bought. The guy said they were aftermarket and he did not know what kind... does anyone reconize these markings? Thank you very much for any help you can give, I want to sell them but I do not know what they are.

They look like comp cams honestly. I have a set that look exactly the same

They look like the cams from my evo 1 swap which evo 1 is the same as a stock 2g

I bought my Car a few years ago and assumed I had the stock cams in it but after taking my engine apart and looking at the cams, I realized they had numbers on them so i looked at an engine I knew was bone stock and they didn't have any of the same numbers on it. Does this make any sense? I'm trying to figure out What cams are in it and if they are stock cams.

One cam has a 27 and upside down 4 and the other cam has a 27 and upside down 2?? Does this sound familiar to anyone?? I'm trying to load some pictures but my smartphone isn't being very cooperative

Chances are, if they are aftermarket, they will have some markings on the end of the cam that is covered by the cam gear, or there will be numbers etched in the cams by hand.

Hmm Alright well I'll give it a closer look when i can get to the machine shop on Monday. I know that the numbers are casting numbers ### they are raised on the cams instead of engraved like your saying.

I jus remember seeing someone else's cams awhile back and they had similar looking markings as to mine.... This Is making me want to take the valve cover off of my built engine and look at the markings on the bc 280's that are in it to compare the markings.

Anyone else have any suggestions or ideas?

Well, ive done some searching for ya, but Ide suggest searching for pics of peoples stock cams on google.
theres a ton of pictures of stock cams and their markings.
I have never ran stock cams, so sorry Im not a lot of help

I've don't some searching as well but with no luck so far!

I don't know if this means anything but the casting numbers that on it are In before the first lobes, on the side closest to the cam gears.

Stock, I had a set with the same markings. Are there any letters stamped on them as well?

No, I didn't see any letters on them but they aren't at my house, They're at the machine shop so i cant take a look at em till Monday morning.

I have different numbers on both of my other 7 bolt heads that are supposedly stock as well. How many different cam grinds did they use in the 2g's? Does anyone know?

So there 272/272's if the ops dont have the stripe they could be the older ffwd cams before they were known as the "red stripes"

I was noticing kind of the same, couldnt tell What they were by the cam specs given though. But I did notice that the specs on the last pic on post #3 were bigger than the others and had the 27 and upside down 4 similar to one of my cams

Didn't see my other cam though, it has the 27 and upside down 2? Anyone happen to know the specs of that cam, even though the specs don't make a whole lot of sense to me. I'm a lot more familiar with small block Chevy camshaft specs and What they mean, haven't spent a whole lot of time researching What the different specs/profiles will do to performance.

Measure the base circle of the cam, and the lobe lift.

Then see if they spec to those.

It is just the same as you would do to a SBC cam to figure lift.

Does anyone have any idea what the "letters" on HKS cams stand for? Not NUMBERS, but letters. My HKS 272 cams I just bought have 272 X and 272 T on them. Is this just a production marking/something like what number it was on the production list that day? Or is it something else?
