What are the chances of internal damage?

I purchased this from the classifieds. It was listed as being rebuilt 1k miles ago.
Seller is claiming the leak happened during shipping. Is that possible or was that already there before shipping??

Seller shouldve packaged that alot better. And also should've bought insurance. People dont realize that most packages literally are thrown on the truck. Imo if the shipping line wont cover it, the seller should.

On a sidenote, leaving turbo turned upright could easily have let any oil leak past the seal. I wouldnt think it would be bad necessarily. Any shaft play?

He's full of shit. There's no way that much oil could run out of a dry center housing during shipping. Actually, it's tough to see in the second photo there but it looks like there's a little evidence of burnt oil between the center housing and turbine housing close to the oil drain flange. This thing needs rebuilt before you run it or it will smoke.

The center housing is clocked in a very strange way that was probably pinching the oil drain tube. You need to lose that straight fitting at the turbo and go with two 45's.

yea I couldn't see that when looking at it from my phone earlier. between that and the bent comp cover, id be getting my money back from somebody
