Looking to find a better way to attach and seal the water neck ass'y (Which includes the thermostat) to the cylinder head, other than just hoping the silicone will seal (the keyhole shape). According to the manual, you're supposed to build up a bead of silicone in the keyhole groove... Maybe someone actually makes a gasket for this by now?? Thank you, Jim

I have never used RTV on that gasket, I always install them clean. Never had a leak.

edit: I havent had a 2g head on my car since 2007 though...

Are you having repeated troubles? Have you checked the flatness of the head surface and t-stat housing surface?

You won't have a problem with rtv unless you apply it in dirty (contaminated) surface,.

There is no problem using RTV, mitsu didn't made a gasket for the oil pan, it uses RTV, however there are some aftermarket once, but no OEM gasket, so rtv and/or gasket will do the job right.

I have seen leaks on bare gaskets, gasket with rtv and on bare rtv as well, most of the time is not the gasket or rtv but the user's fault.

A clean, even and dry surface is the key.
