So I'm in the middle of swapping my 2G GST to a GSX. My car is a 99, my donor car was a 97. Was/is there any kind of shieling around the older style filler necks in the inner wheel well?

My 99 has a plastic shield over it with tabs coming off of the neck that the shielding attaches too. On the 97 filler neck there's no tabs so I can't reattach the shield. I'm wondering if there's a different shield I'm missing from my donor car or whether the filler neck just ran through the wheel well naked?

I convered my old 97 spyder to awd and it never had any plastic shielding, just the metal one at the bottom where the pipe goes under the frame rail. If it's plastic, it's not going to protect against much anyway. You could always keep the same filler neck, and swap it to the new tank if everything lines up.
