Im at the back end of the car working now. And the gas tank filler neck is super seedy and bad on the 99 eclipse om working on. I want to swap it out from the 97. rather then buying a new unit.

Issue there is i notice the 97 filler neck is a bit different setup then the 99.. what is the purpose of the extra lines on the 99 and can i swap to the 97 style filler neck and delete out the extra stuff etc. First photo is the rusty 99 filler neck and second is the black 97 style filler neck.

I can't say for sure but I believe they are interchangeable. The body and fuel tank are the same so it should bolt up no problem. The 98-99 models had that charcoal canister to "scrub" the gas vapors for cleaner air emissions or some shit. You'll hurt nothing by not having it. You will have 1 extra fitting on top of the tank but can cap it off.

My 98 filler neck looks like that 97 one I do believe that first one has the extra stuff due to better emissions parts my brother says it may also be due to a overflow thing his 01 has
Sounds good. I wodner if i can switch over to the more basic fuel filler neck and if the lines that are removed can be vented or if they must be plugged off . Kind if a experiment. Only other thing i could do instead buy a new filler neck is cut and modify the rotten parts out of mine and replaces with a quality hosing..

Just seen your comment yes im going look into how to swap these over..

I don't think new filler necks are available so try to swap them and cap off what is not needed like @BLACK'98DSM stated.

Hell if it works then please let us know. I might swap over to an early model filler neck myself just to get rid of all the extra lines and such. I already removed the canister and other evap accesories so there's no reason to have anything extra.
