I just had to take pics of this and post.

What some people do to cheap out on a build.

Take one Honda D16Y6 block and add a cheapskate and mix in one 4" side grinder.

The HG surface of the block, Keep in mind this engine runs a factory MLS HG.

So I get the block set up, and leveled the best I could.

I spray the block deck with blue lay out dye.
My first pass is .0005, just to check set up and level.
I have checked for a front to back taper, about .005

Set up is good, lets see how bad it is.

He has a coolat leak into #4 cylinder, and a miss on 2 others.

He chose this wepon to clean his HG surface beacuse he was having a few issues with HG reside and was in a hurry.

This should help the compression some.

So the moral of this story is... Do not clean your headgasket surface with the same equipment you use for smoothing welds!

If this is some stock engine, I would say yes. But for this customer, he is wanting raised compression.

Sno....He is a repete customer to say the least....

Nice. Maybe he was hoping to take enough off with that grinder to raise the compression on his own. Instead of having to take it to you. LOL

Has he shown you the head yet?

Looks like it was tied to the back bumper of a truck and dragged........

around the world.

Good job bringing it back to life though. Bogus, your posts are always interesting. Thank you for that.

Man that's bad. I had a cheapass customer with a 4G63 block warped .008 before. Put an OEM gasket on that sucker and made 700whp haha. Sucks for those honda guys though they don't really have any good composite HG options that can pick up that kind of slack like we do.

Seriously? A grinder?

And the Honda guys wonder why nobody takes them seriously...

Haha I guess we now achieved a piston sticking out of the deck.

No. I have not seen the head yet, but I think he is going to used a head I built for him a year or so ago, a D15 that was milled .030

I think if it was drug behind a truck the surface would have looked better!!
Glad you get some enjoyment out of these threads.

Ill have to stop by his place and see once he gets the short block built.

Hopefully he is not repeating the same stupid mistakes..... :banghead: It must be interesting every time you see his smiling face. :p

Robert

Not most of the time, but it is always something entertaining!

12 thousandths is a lot, wouldnt you have to use a thicker headgasket to get everything right again?

I think its important to mention most people think .0012 when you say 12 thousandths. He took .012 off, thats a hole different ball game of material taken off LOL

Sno....He is a repete customer to say the least....

Lucky you, with this guy working on cars, he should keep you in business.

People must hear "resurface the block" and think, well I'll just touch it up with a grinding wheel. :nono:

Glad you all got a kick out this.

I am sure other shops, like JAM, SIM, Forced, all get parts dropped off on there doorstep, and they look at it and just shake there head.

My Freelance ad specifies no wheel damage, yet I often get turbos with broken shafts and missing turbine wheels that people seriously believe can be repaired for the basic service price. I'm like ROFL.
