so i bring my 95 tsi AWD to a mechanic to have him put some coilovers, new clutch/flywheel, and rear o2 sensor that was previously removed before i got the car. the mechanic calls me today saying the car will start but shuts off right away. i was wondering if anyone knew why the previous owner would remove the o2 sensor, and if this is why the car wont start? thanks for the help!:D

The rear o2 sensor is just for the cat. It shouldn't make your car stall out or not run. I would check to see if a coupling or intercooler pipe is blown off or loose. do you have any codes?

shouldnt make it stall but if it has been running with no o2 sensor on the rear then he needs to pull the battery and let the ecu reset. ive seen cars have bad hesitation and other odd issues when changing from a old o2 sensor to a new one.

the guy up one is probably more correct, i bet the mechanic knocked a fitting loose when working on something and didnt notice, could be a combo, loose fitting and o2 sensor, that could cause enough stall to shut the car down.

what do you mean by codes? sorry im very new to the car world haha
and zedicus, that does make a lot of sense. ill let you guys know whats wrong when he gets back to me.

If I reset the ecu, would it change the tune I put on there from a dsmlink?

Could b myriad of issues. Suggest checking maf, ecu & isc/iac. O2 sensors used by ecu for fuel trims...not idle as others mentioned.

Make sure he double checked all the vacuum lines he may have pulled one off, that or the clutch isn't adjusted correctly causing it to immediately stall out but the tech should know better than that

I'd make sure that mechanic is taking you for a run around with your money, assure that hes not charging you for problems he may be creating. This has happened ot me and this is why I do my own work
