Ok so i put the car back together and it turns over but wont start. It did how ever start once and it ran like complete trash. I have a plug on the right side of the distributor that comes off the harness that i have no home for. I have looked at diagrams in my chiltons and cant find crap. The timing is perfect and the plugs are in there right homes. I have attempted to adjust the CPS on the valve cover to see if it helps and it really doesnt. I hear a rattle when the key is ON behind the throttle body, fuel rail, starter ect... This is a 1991 TSI Turbo. I had the head machined and all gaskets replaced. I took my time checking everything and doing it as the manual tells me. I can turn the crank 6 complete times and get everything back aligned for timing. I need help and fast before i throw my hands up ive already dumped 500 into this car and need to know what i can do to check starting. I am going to check the fuel to see if there is any. But if someone could tell me what that plug goes to ill get a picture of it up. Also any other suggestions would be great.:thumb:

I forgot to add there is a light on the dash board that looks like a house or radiator and it lights orange. Other then that no other lights come on.

Distributor? you mean coil packs? Is the plug triangle shaped?

Spark/Fuel/Compression... 3 main reasons a car wont start. Start with spark by taking out each plug wire and manually check for spark. Then go to fuel and see if the fuel pump is pumping fuel. Then compression check

I was also wondering which one of those with the blue caps on the driver side plugs go to the fuel pressure regulator? Its a vacuum line.

And the plug im talking about in the picture is coming out right under the fuel line to the FPR. But its coming out of the harness:thumb::thumb:

I dont have a compression tester but im going to see if i can borrow one from the shop next door

Now i have fuel i havent checked spark yet i need another set of hands for that cant see crap from the driver seat. But like i said the plugs do have fuel on them. Would a bent valve cause any of this? I mean when they machined my head they took it down to the valves. So i have like 0 room for error. And i tripple checked the timing to ensure everything was lined up and it still is.

Ok so back to taking the head off i ran a compression test and theres fuel on the spark plugs but no firing in cylinders 1 and 4 compression for 3 was 60 and 2 was 95 now the compression started to drop on the tester when i checked it so i think it might be leaking but other then that i dont know why 1 and 4 has 0 and 2 and 3 are firing

Yes bent valves will cause not to start... you will loose compression in those cylinders

Make sure the compression tester is not leaking, iv'e seen some cheap ones leak all the time. O Reily's has one thats pretty good that you can rent. I've never had a problem with those leak

I cant remember, but i believe thats the A/C plug?

Makes sense since the AC was deleted out of it :)

Uhh what goes to the intake mainfold by injector for cylinder 4 looks like a vacuum line does but where does the vacuum line come from?

Ok so i added oil to the compression test and still no result. 0 in 1 80 in 2 95 in 3 and 0 in 4. Im thinking something is hooked up wrong. I mean i am getting fuel but i dont know about spark yet still have to test that see if it is firing. So far i have 1 part of the triangle and thats fuel. Please more suggestions i need to get this car running. I am on the verge of buying a new head and trying that.

Yes i did a leak down test no air out of any where. I did another compression test and it reads 1=0 2=85 3=93 4=0

Now the machine shop shaved the head down to valves and left 0 room for error. Could they of have shaved it to close and now its leaking? Im looking into another head.
