canada,
All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

Whats wrong.

Thanks

Have you hooked it to a scanner and run a data scan to check for rpm signal while cranking? If you do indeed have no rpm signal while cranking then a bad cps is probably your culprit

So I replaced the CPS (not very fun...), and now have a signal while cranking (240RPM) and... wait for it, I am smelling fuel (a step better than I was before). Now, I know its an ignition problem. What supplies the coils/tells them to fire aside from the ECU? I know they need to get a signal from the ECU and im assuming they use that signal as a sort of relay to spark, but I am trying to trace it down and am praying that its not my ECU. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Problem Solved! I got frustrated and decided to disconnect and reconnect every connector I could find in the engine bay. Lo and behold, one of the bigger ones looked connected and felt connected, but wasnt- the car fired right up after i wiggled it around. Now, to make sure it stays connected...

ok so i have this 97 eclipse i was having a problem with the map sensor it wouldnt let me shift over 4k changed it ran great all the way home got home tinted the windows went to go for a ride and it wont start i check no spark i changed the coil plugs wires camshaft sensor crankshaft sensor ecu still nothing its not getting spark to the coil anybody have an clue wtf is up with it LOL:confused:

So it was running that same day and then no spark - you might be best to retrace your steps from the when it was running if you havent already. Is everything else working - fuel pump ect?

i went over every wire i could find check all the connectors fuses everything i could find still nothing spent all day on it again today goin over everything and nothing it did it a few days ago same deal it was runnin and i shut it off then it wouldnt restart the battery was more or less shot so i changed it still wouldnt fire cranks over like a mother but wont fire pushed it down the hill by my house and finally got the clutch to pop and it started this time kept trying to pop the clutch and it wont fire fuel pumps kickin on everything in the car has power except the coil

when in doubt check your neutral safety switch i had the same problem turns out my switch self destructed :ohdamn: if you are unfamiliar with its location i'll take photos

If it was his neutral saftey switch then i dont think his car would turn over. He says it turns over like a mofo just no spark.

Check the wires around the egr pipe on the side of the head. Same problem happened to me when I had my NT. The wires happened to get melted and shorted out each other. I believe it was the wires to the cam sensor.

finally figured it out theres 2 relays by the brake booster ones fuel ones spark changed em both fired right up LOL wish i woulda knew that before i spent 600 on new cam shaft crankshaft sensors ecu coil battery LOL thanks for all the help tho

I'm looking for some ideas on what to look for to get my car up and running. I just finished swapping everything over to speed density using the sensors and plug and play harness from ECM. After everything was installed I then used the How To Tune a 1G V3 SD ECMLink with no MAF guide to setup with. Well after everything was dialed in I tried to start the car with no success. It will crank over no problem and attempt to start but won't run.

Before going SD I was running a 3g/EVO MAFS and the car had no starting issues hence why I think I'm missing something (probably simple). Any ideas or help would be great and thanks in advance.

Sam

Sorry about not posting a log in my first post so please see attached. I'm used to automatically posting them on ECM's site I will do so here as well good catch.

I switched the ECU pin call outs so now my MAP is reading from the factory BARO (pin 16) and the IAP is still at the factory Intake Temp. pin. I removed the plugs, which were soaked, and cleaned them up but I'm still having problems getting the car to start. Now I realize that the car is more then likely flooded so I'm working with that situation. Any other ideas or do you think once its dried up it should start up fine?

So where is your wbo2 actually wired? If you have both it and the MAP wired to the baro input, that could be causing your problems.

My wideband is on the EGR Temp. pin.

I'm still currently not running, I cleaned the plugs again and cranked the engine a few times with them removed and the injector plugs removed to further try and clear the cylinders of any extra fuel. I then went and checked over the basics, I have good cylinder compression, my timing marks line up, I'm getting spark and fuel so I ruled them out as any potential problems. I'm running low on ideas. If anyone has any suggestions or numbers I can input to get me headed in the right direction that would be great. I think my next move is going to be to just plug my MAFS back in just to hear the car run again as I feel I'm going to be having to purchase a new starter by the time I figure this one out. I have a feeling I just have something set wrong or missed a setting I'm just not sure yet and have no plans on giving up on speed density. It will run one day. Here is my log from today with not much progress. My wideband is still not set correctly as this is another one of my little side problems, from my understanding AEM is not favored in DSMLink.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
