Brief update;

Took the car for a spin yesterday. Didn't end up well.
Started hesitating half way through the ride and stalled about a mile from my driveway, in the rain no less.
Wasn't sure what it was so walked home in the rain to get some gas containers just incase i ran out of gas. Filled two 5g containers.
Still wouldn't run afterwards. Would start then stall.

Eventually i found the intake pipe going into the throttle body somehow got dislodged. I squeezed it in enough to limp the mile home.
That sealed my decision to remove the S90 and put in the 1g TB. Also ordered a new elbow with a bung for the speed density.
I need to make sure that will never happen again, it was not a fun experience.

After my last experience, im swapping the throttle body for the 1G throttle body, waiting on the order for the TB elbow with bung for SD air inlet sensor, will replace all tubing from intercooler to TB with 2.5" SS that i'm going to attempt to bend myself with my pipe bender, and will get a 1.25" fitting welded on it for the GFB BOV hose.
At this point just waiting on some parts to arrive to get started.

Besides this i installed the new wheels. Here is a pic.
Rims are 17x8 Konig Hypergram Metallic Carbon w/machined lip +35mm offset. Tires are Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 215/45R17.

I received everything I think I need to move forward.
Have the 1g TB, bolts, gaskets for it.
Got the TB elbow. Got some straight pipe to bend for the other intercooler to elbow tube.

Does anyone see anything obvious I’m missing?

For now for the speed density I’m going to put the IAT in the TB elbow but keep it unplugged until I get a base tune done first.
And I’m going to try to stick weld a hose barb into the tube for the GFB BOV. This is something I’ve never done before so it may end up really bad.
But I want to learn.
I’m trying stick weld first then will try TIG, I just don’t have the gas for the shielding yet. That’s why I’m trying stick first.
Besides that the multi welder I got is kind of weak for TIG, although it does support it. I may end up getting a dedicated TIG welder soon.

Even the tube bending won’t be easy since I don’t have a mandrel bender, I’m going to try with a modified hydraulic pipe bender. Figure ill fill the tube with sand and give it a try without kinking it.

Any updates? What's the benefits of the 1g tb? Just similar?

Thanks for asking.

The reason i went with the 1G TB is because the S90 i had was sticking or leaking (which they are notorious for). So i sold it to someone who repairs them and got a 1G TB.
First thing i did when i got the 1G TB is replace the BISS and BISS seal with a brand new one.
My Intake is ported, because of this the 1G TB is a better option for me, since the 1G TB has a larger opening to the intake.
My original 2G TB i didn't use because it came off my original 4g64, and when i switched over to the 4g63 head and used the 4g63 intake manifold - i just didn't want to even try using the original 4g64 tg TB on it, so got the S90.
We all make mistakes :)

I really haven't had much time to work on this :notgood:. So its been sitting like this, nearly finished, for a while. To be honest, even after its finished it won't get much use at all.
I was doing this as a hobby and really as a dedication to my dad who passed away while we were in the middle of doing the reupholstery for the eclipse. It was a very hard time for me. This was a couple years ago now, a while after i started this thread. Still hurts even to think about it 🎻.
It's not a daily driver, and never will be. Its also not a track car. Its just a fun, modded, functional 2G hybrid-4g64t Spyder that looks cool.

And its kind of funny, if you read the start of this thread to now, you can tell how much i didn't know back then, and how much i've learned since.
I've asked some questions i would now consider dumb. But i would never learn any other way.

Proves in real-time how valuable the folks on this forum really are. @colephillips - i see your new here which is why i am mentioning this.

Recently i welded in a ZZPerformance 3" Ultra Quiet Short SS Resonator into the catback exhaust. Huge difference! Love it!

As of now i need to calibrate the TPS, using the feeler method, since its a 1G TB with a 2G TPS. For some strange reason my last TPS stopped sending any signal, even though it was new. I know the wiring is good since i just wired in a new plug for it. Same plug as the old one but the old one had a lost clip, had a hole in it with a screw which was holding it together. LOL

Still have the speed density, which has the IAT installed in a bung on the elbow coming off the TB, but not yet wired in. And the MAP sensor sitting in a shelf. I kind of wanted to have a base tune before setting up the SD.
This Video has been great to help me understand Speed Density.

Then tuning, tuning, tuning.
And wheel alignment. Then basically finished.

Ive also started working on other projects. That's just how i am. I need to keep myself occupied or i get lazy and don't do anything. I work from home full time, everything is local for me. I'm married for over 20 years and my wife really handles the day to day with the kids.
I am a senior IT engineer professionally, for a extremely large company. My house is a smart house, and i am constantly adding onto it, while at the same time coming up with ways to keep it simple for the wife and kids.

I can go on and on, and explain a bunch of diy projects i have recently been working on besides this DSM project, but i don't want to bore you or anyone else reading this 👼.

If anyone is interested, please ask and i'll be happy to share. Otherwise, don't want to be more of a bore than i already am. :boring:
Alot of it is around smart home stuff (automation, wifi, etc), working on another car (a 2012 MINI R60 for my daughter), making a wood burning brick pizza oven, installing a attic ladder (yes my house did not come with attic access), making a koi pond (with a bridge), making a smart functional stargate model (like the tv show - but won't transport me to another planet - ive tried :D ), automatic water changes for my reef aquarium, a bunch of other 3D printing stuff... And i'm sure more that i can't think of at the top of my head.

The stargate sounds amazing, as does the functional pizza oven. As a former chef, and a sci-fi nerd...both sound awesome to me!
Here is a short vid of the stargate i made in action.
The buttons work on the DHD. But i also made a web interface for it.

Brother, that is amazing. My wife is the OG Stargate fan and who got me into it, and she thought it was awesome too.

So uh...how much would I need to throw your way to make me one of these? :p

Seriously tho ive saw similar sell on ebay for upwards of $4k.
You would be surprised all that goes into it. The filament for printing it, the boards, circuitry, alone is close to $1k. Then add in the programming and labor.
Its a cool thing but its no joke to make. I dont think im ever going to make another in my life. One time deal for me. :D

Nah, I know enough and have enough family that are big into tech that I can guess as to how labor intensive it is.

Seriously though, that's like movie quality. Great job. Very impressed.

Okay that's freakin awesome. My late grandma was the original Stargate nerd and got me watching it when I was a kid. When she passed I got her complete DVD collection and have kept it thru multiple moves and 15 years.

Hey if you ever want to go down the blackhole i went through on this project.
I made mine based off of this design. Anyone with a 3d printer and who is a little tech savvy can try it :D

Instructions are minimal. And half of what's written is wrong. But it is a great starting point.

Hey you helped me SO MUCH with the DSM build.
If you ever decide to tackle this stargate project, i hope you know you can ALWAYS reach out to me for any questions.
I'll be happy to help :)

Can anyone share a link or info on how one would install and setup speed density using the stock MAF and Mitsubishi Style 4bar MAP?

What I’ve done so far is wire the MAF plug to the AIT.
I installed the 4 bar right in the intake manifold and plugged the stock harness into it.

I’m not sure if anything else is missing when it comes to the wiring. Most harnesses I see for SD are for the GM style MAP. Which I don’t have.

The setup in link is understandable.
And the tuning is still too advanced for me.

If I understand what you want to do correctly you need to tell the ecu that you’re using the stock MDP input as whatever MAP sensor you have now.

It is relatively easy to find on link under one of the tabs.

Thanks. For some reason I’m finding the instructions there a bit confusing.

By telling the ECU I guess you mean in dsmlink?

But no other wiring is required except for the wire from the MAF and AIT? Since I’m using the mitsu style MAP?

Yes, you need to tap the maf plug and wire the gm iat into the correct wires. After you will no longer require the physical maf, just utilizing the input for your gm IAT. You will also need to tell the ecu where and what that is as well.

-Daniel
Thanks for the explanation!

I don’t know why I’m finding it so confusing.
I have the harness from ecmlink for a gm MAP.
From what I understand I can use that harness and just leave the MAP pigtail unplugged, while using the stock harness for the mitsu style 4 bar map.

Big thanks for posting your progress of this build, I have a stock Spyder that I plan to boost someday, and I was wondering other than the ecu swap, did you in fact swap or create new wire harnesses to accommodate the upgrades? Thanks again in advance, it's truly appreciated! I wasn't sure if the stock Spyder harness could be modified for the turbo setup, or if a turbo wire harness and fuse box is the ideal setup.

What I did was modify the original harness, by re-pinning for a turbo ECU.
I also ran some new wires, like for the boost controller.
But most are the same.
Swapping harnesses would be a lot more involved.
I also hard wired the fuel pump.
Probably more I’m just not remembering. :)

Today im going to go ahead and set up the ECU for Speed Density.
🤞🤞🤞

Much appreciated! I'm gonna stay tuned to your build progress so I can continue to ask more informative, and not so repetitive questions!
If you have any specific questions i would be more than happy to answer if i can.
Its just this project is literally years long for me. And some of the stuff i've done i've just forgotten by now :)

But mostly everything i did document in this thread.
I search this thread sometimes just to reference stuff for myself :)
Like if you ask me which cams i used. I wouldn't be able to tell you without searching.

Currently i need to tune. And im pretty sure i have some vacuum or/and boost leaks im going to need to find. My 4g64 hybrid has always been just a project/hobby car. So even when its done it probably wont get much use. Similar to a 1978 CJ7 i have that's been sitting covered in my driveway for about a year without me using it, it has a total of about 5k miles after the complete engine rebuild/overhaul. Good thing i replaced the carb with an EFI, or it would never start after how long its been sitting.

I just cant get rid of this stuff due to sentimental value.

Oh and there is nothing i cant stand more then when someone makes a post, and says they got it figured out with no explanation. Then disappears off the face of the planet.
Happens way too often. I refuse to be that guy! :)

Sorry if I sound like a broken record.
But is there anyone willing to help me with the tuning?
I never expect charity work. Will pay for your time and expertise. :)

Also I can work around your schedule. I wfh full time and can make time.
No rush for me, but this has just been one thing I’ve not been able to do myself. No matter how much I’ve tinkered.

It’s possible there are other factors. Maybe a boost/exhaust or vacuum leak. Maybe something just isn’t wired right.
I can’t get a good steady idle.
That’s all I really would like from the tuning. Nothing crazy. 🤪

I haven’t hardly tested much with any load. Basically parked all the time.
I’m also not sure the boost controller is doing its job.
