hybrid turbo help

i searched with not much luck so here goes. i have a t3 turbo and i want to make it a t3/t4. it has .48 on the hot side and .42 on the cold side. i don't know much about turbos but from what i hear the t3/t4 is better than the t3. spools as fast and has more power and more potential. so how do i make my turbo a hybrid. i would just buy one but it is hard to match my dp. any links would be cool. thanks

Step 1) Sell your current turbo on Ebay for whatever you can get for it.

Step 2) Buy a T3/T4 turbo from a reputable turbo shop.

There ya go. This isnt a joke either. You cant just turn a T3 into a T3/T4. It would require a rebuild with new compressor wheel, compressor housing and backing plate. Perhaps more. And Im not even sure it can be done. You can get a new T3/T4 for under $800. You could probably sell your T3 for a couple hundred bucks. This will take the cost of your new turbo down to $600 or less.

wow i didn't know that. i thought a t3/t4 was t3 exhaust side and t4 compressor side with a different wheel. that kinda sucks. i guess i will have to have a whole new dp fabricated too. or cut the flange and weld a new one.

You are correct. A T3/T4 is just that. A T3 turbine wheel and housing matched to a T4 compressor wheel and housing. But there are unique parts that separate the two. Since a T3 style turbine housing will still be used, your Down Pipe should work, as long as you use the same T3 style housing. Im assuming you have a .48 5 bolt housing.
