So what are you working on that’s NOT your DSM?

Everyone yells at me and tells me I need to go get checked out. I've had back spasms for YEARS. I'm probably close to 20 years of random spasms.

Ironically when I first started dealing with them I had my 93 Panda. I was constantly in pain, but I got talked into driving 6 hours to a friend's going away party. I thought the drive would be the end of me in a Talon for 300 miles with a hurting back. Somehow after the drive there, and the drive back I felt better for the first time in months.
Kinda funny, when I’m in the DSM my back feels alright, (as alright as alright can be, you know), it’s when u try to get out that hurts..!!!

Finally got my Neon down on the ground, fluids filled and ready to go for exhaust and alignment!

I dig man, I can remember just about every oil stain on my drive.. it’s there till you hammer it out.. LOL

Had some sagging trim panels to fix, but when I got em off I stepped back and kinda liked what I saw.. I don’t think they are necessary unless you’re going about 300 MPH.. whatta ya think??

You don't need them and they're fully aesthetic, however it does make it look more like a base model. It's all up to your preference, but I would at least keep them laying around just in case.

We've been riding in this truck since 2001 and it finally snapped a connecting rod
Crawling through a pond and a little water got in the airbox somehow. Since water doesn't compress, something had to fail. Unfortunately that was a rod and the bottom half of it punched through the oil pan. I knew the death day was coming but didn't know it would be this way. I was hoping we could burn up the transmission or something. I have videos of water up to the windshield and it never hurt the engine but something must have been wrong with the airbox this time. Ah, the joys (or terrors) of things getting old. I don't want to give up on it but the truck is stuck in the woods and I don't know how deep the damage really is outside of the broken rod and oil pan. We at least know it needs a very expensive tow out and a full rebuild. Even though it's 2am, we're raising a glass to the rough 365k miles that it lived. Hopefully we'll raise another glass soon after recovery and repairs.

Oh for sure keep em around, just got all the clips to re assemble it all.. my only doubt is the holes that hold the clips.. bondo..?? Weld..?? Gonna be hard to cover for sure

This is what I’ve been doing.. Finally made the curve at the end of the 120 ft walkway in the back yard, had some unexpected rain rip through and almost harshed my gig.. Flat track for our wheelchairs! LOL

Well.....I apologize for being "absent" for a bit but I have been studying for my other hobby, Amateur Radio. I had a radio setup back in the 90's and packed it all away 15 years ago or more, all in their boxes.
I passed my Technician Exam Tuesday and am now officially a "legal" HAM radio operator, although I've been doing this stuff since 1976, when I was just 12. Got 94% and pissed me off I didn't ACE it. Anyways, here is what I have been occupied with lately (and it's cheaper than DSM's or cars period). My 4x4 accident really messed up being able to bend over a fender and not hurt for days but I am recovering......I think....I hope. Anyway, here is what I have and it goes out a directional antenna called a beam. I've chatted all over the USA and Canada and the Bahamas. That part costs NOTHING 🙂
Marty - KF0ULH (or "The Mailman" if I'm talking skip. If you know what you're looking at, YOU KNOW) 😎

Nice set up talon.. ham it up..!!! And I know what you mean about acing a test.. I take that shit personal..!! I got kicked out of a paragliding school because, well, just because and in all my years of schooling,( grade school, middle, high school, college, trade school), I have NEVER BEEN KICKED OUT A CLASS.. I still kinda wanna choke him

The 2 dam questions I missed, out of 35, I had never seen before. I knew that so I skipped over #6 & #29. I went back and looked at them and just had to take a stab in the dark. I DID get complimented and asked if I would like to go ahead and test for the next level, a General License, but I said "Nah, I'm good" 👍 I told the tester that I had never ever seen both of those, I really really wanted to ACE that MF'r.

Still autocrossing the GT350 and hitting a few cars show events in between. Haven't been able to fully convince myself that its worth ripping the weight out of the car to chase the pointy edge of the field so trying to race a full weight car is proving tricky. Did upgrade suspension this year, but tires are a full season old now and stsrting to lose some grip.

Car handles great but is still predominantly understeer but then struggles with throttle on oversteer at corner exit. Only have 3 total events on the suspension so still dialing it in.

Oh heck yeah.. got to drive a dwarf car on an 1/8 mile dirt oval once.. it was sideways then almost straight then sideways again.. it didn’t have a right front brake, at all, so when you tap the brakes the car pitches sideways then your on the gas.. was fun for sure

I had been working a lot and when not working busy catching up on things, but today I wanted to go to the shop.to see what has been up.

The first thing we got into was trying to make and old school steam jenny thar probably hasn't run in 25 years run.

It only took some minor diagnosis but we had it running and making pressure and steam in under an hour.

We then got started in trying to get his BBC jet boat together and running. Last he had it out it started running bad.

I pulled the intake scoop. Upon pulling it I noted that one of the nuts for one of the carb filter covers was missing.

After pulling the intake I cleaned the old silicone from it while he prepped other stuff. Set the intake back on and was prepared to finish assembly when he was like, let's check compression before we get any farther....

Only did one side.

120, 120, 80, 0

Got the bore scope out and found a hole in #7. That's where the missing nut was and that's why it started running bad, smoking, and spitting oil.

We went back into tear down mode. Pulled the intake, pulled the heads, etc. The pictures show what was found. It also cracked the sleeve.

We then finished pulling the engine and got it on the stand.

Not only am i a mechanic professonally, i do it for a hobby too 😁
I've been working on a new car related project. Mitsubishi Lancer!
Was just gonna be a cheap car to drive( I miss having a 5 speed ) but needed more work than I Originally wanted. Since the engine has to come out. Decided to build it/ swap it. Gonna have fun with this one. I swear neglected Mitsubishis always find a way in my wallet 😆😂 one day I'll buy a nice one like I did when I bought my silverado HD aka tow pig brand new.

Please tell me you're going to build a Lancer "GS-T" because that would be cool.

My decent into hell continues as my pool renovation project plods along.

Reached a major milestone this weekend though: all of the osmotic blisters have been grinded out and all of the gel coat has been stripped off the walls.

We're having a bit of a heatwave right now and as I was baking in the sun and sweating me arse off it was one of the few times I was mad that this thing get full sun coverage during most of the day. I drank almost a gallon of water while working, never peed, and STILL lost almost 8 pounds in one day.

I've had this old Harbor Freight angle grinder for well over a decade at this point and it just won't die. When that day comes, it has definitely earned its place in Valhalla.

Next up is filling in the hundreds of divots I've created with vinyl ester putty. Not super difficult, just stinky and time consuming.

Hoping to get this project wrapped up within the next month (which might be a bit too optimistic) so I can get back to work on my 1G!

Before I was into DSM's I was into RC cars. Had an original Tamiya Clod Buster, RC10, Traxxas Stampede, RCTGT. Then I got out of them because it was taking too much of my money. So I got a DSM, LOL.

Now I'm back into RC cars. This time I'm fully electric and they are FAST. Last winter I walked into a hobby shop and walked out with a Traxxas Maxx Slash when they were having their $150 off sale. I thought it would scratch the itch but it didn't. I then bought an Arrma Typhon grom. Then Team Corally came out with the Kaguma Limited Edition and I got one of those now too.

Traxxas... oh man. I was never really into that stuff, but years ago I had one that would run 45mph. At the time it was very impressive for a remote control.

That's sounds like a big Job, bet it's gonna look fantastic when it's done!
And yes it's gonna be kind of a "GST" style build. Ideally with a evo style 4g63. Because I quoted parts to forge and build the engine in it now to around 350/ 400hp. and I could literally buy a Japan import 4g63t ( rvr, airtec i think) and be way better off.

Are you going to seal it with epoxy resin after all that work?
I am, yes. I'm taking a bit of an uncharted path with this project and decided to dig into the Sherwin Williams industrial coatings catalog. The pool will be getting a thick coating of Macropoxy 646 for the primer/sealing/protective coat, followed by a coat of Sherloxane for the wear coat and UV stability.

This combo is often used in waste treatment plants so it should be just fine in a swimming pool.

That pool does not look very skateboarder friendly. :)

I'm sad so sad and have no place to vent. All of my family and friends are getting old. They're needing rides and financial help. I'm still young enough to offer all of this but it really hurts. My life isn't what it used to be. I'm always able and willing to help (for the time being). But this is wearing me down. I hope my retirement isn't like theirs. I have so many years to go before I pull that card but I hope and prey that my life isn't so rough once I do. I need encouragement, thoughts and maybe even prayers through this stage of life (mine and theirs). One man can only carry so much baggage and I'm weighed down. I've become the "yes man", but every yes hurts more than the last.
