Lady s' , and gentlemen thank you for stopping by.

. I removed the transmission to change starter plate. Then i re-installed everything back.
. Now i am not starting. i do however crank very well.
. Before i had no issues at all.
. I installed new batt and new Starter, new wires. i even re-did my CAS plug wires.
. I DO hear "POP" coming out of the pipe when attempting to start the car.
. My cell stays on for 5 seconds when key is turned ON, then goes away.
. I have not melted, or fried anything based on my search.
. I checked all the fuses in the engine compartment.
. I cleaned all plugs to injectors, coil pack, cas plus, ect. all the plugs on the harness in
the vicinity of the fuel rail.

In my search, i did find this awesome thread.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-miscellaneous/217951-how-diagnose-no-start.html

But i don't know how to use my multimeter, to diagnose ."seriously i don't" it has has many settings on that dial and don't know were it should be.

what do you think i overlooked that may be related to me removing the trans. ?

Below are some photos because what thread is interesting with out photos ?

I got a bit of a pop when my transistor pack went, but I agree with the above post 100%.

A volt meter is so easy to use man. Touch the battery with the two tips with the key on accel. Turn the dial till you get 12.4 volts and that's the setting it should be on. Easy stuff. Black one needs to be grounded and the red one checks your power and displays it. You need to go over all your work that you did since it ran before you took stuff apart.

Thanks, i know it has to show, 12.4 just don't know which option it is, i guess i have to keep trying. Also , i reversed the procedure, haven't spotted anything that pops out, like i said, i even rewired, re-soldered, for safe of mind.

This guy has no clue.

Take it off and run it to Autozone. Their alternator tester also accommodates them.

You mentioned that you found this awesome thread: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-miscellaneous/217951-how-diagnose-no-start.html
but did you bother reading it? The section that applies to you is the "cranks but doesn't start" section...

before messing with the multimeter, you need to determine if you even have spark to the plugs, fuel pressure, or compression...hell, check that the timing marks are aligned while your at it. Within 15 min, you'll have a damn good idea of what you're dealing with.

Place the plug and plug wire onto the valve cover and have a friend crank the car. Do you see spark arcing onto the valve cover?

If you see an arc to all plugs, it may be pointless to even test the coilpack and/or power transistor.

You put it on the dial with volts. It's really simple to figure out you just need to put effort into it and WANT to fix your car. There's alot of info on this site then can help you figure it out. I would be looking into your cas and find out if it has power. A test light can tell you alot along with a voltage meter.

I hate to admit it, but i did throw the towel in early, its just i have to ignore the 3000 lbs of metal staring at me because college is eating up all of my time.
Also to check with a light (just got one) i need a helper to be in the seat while im in the hood, no assist yet...... Also Thanks...

Your right i have no clue what you mean with your response. Take what off the alternator? ..... You must of missed were i said i crank strong. Sooooooo ?
But no i lack the experience with a multimeter if that is what you were implying.

Love this guy Scottie is the man. I did in fact read the section that applies to me "Crank but no start"
I am yet to find a good samaritan to just turn the key on for me.
That is why i was interested in testing the coil packs resistance, which i now know i can test by choosing the "Ohms" option on the multimeter.

Also i was hesitant about using starting fluid, as i didn't know if it would be an issue.

But thank you this does provide direction.

NOTE. the CAS, and Power transistor are Newish . But i have heard of faulty parts like these to still provide spark. but not work to well.
Ill have to dig deeper and ill report back once i can diagnose the root of this cause.

Not you, ya goon, the other guy with the 420a.

The transistor pack, Autozone has the ability to test them with their alternator/starter tester.

Yeah, you'll need a buddy to help...guess I overlooked that. Is there a dsm facebook group in your area?

Also i was hesitant about using starting fluid, as i didn't know if it would be an issue.
Considering the maf, turbo, and intercooler, it could be and issue. But starter fluid is just to get the engine to fire and determine if you have a fuel related issue. If I were to use it, I would spray it into the throttle body to see if the engine fires.

Another thing you could do is crack open the fuel feed line at the rail...place a rag under it, crank the starter real quick and see if any fuel comes out (or if there's fuel on the rag) to tell you if the fuel pump is providing pressure.

Also check the compression (buy/rent a compression tester from autoparts store) and check the timing marks on the cam gears...all you need is a 1/2" ratchet.

You mentioned rewiring your CAS? Did you take it off to rewire it?
Maybe you got your wires wrong when you rewired?
It could be possible if you took it off that it's 180 out. Did you make sure the marks match up on the Cas and the camshaft?
Also it looks like a 1g CAS that has the slots on it to adjust timing. Did you reset your timing?

I would be very reluctant to think its my timing or compression, as its my pride and joy (Engine) Trust me i check it religiously. and there has been no issue since i place the engine in the bay. Its got to be something i unplug or something when i dropped the transmission.

I touched the CAS wires AFTER the Starting issue.
Yes its a 6 bolt L/B . When i re-soldered my CAS Plug wires, i did it one by one. to avoid mix-ups. i also did not remove the CAS itself, nor did i unbolt it. i just removed the tranny and starter that's it.

I don't see resetting timing necessary unless of course i removed the CAS to begin with.

Yup, I agree. However, my point is that it is very easy to check and can contribute to a no start issue.

You need to verify spark and fuel...bottom line.

POINT BLANK> yes i do.......

Can i manipulate the starter to engage from the engine bay, so i can do this .... oh no wait, cant duh, then how would i get fuel.... still need some in the car.

check the plug on the starter, it probably came off when re-installing the tranny.

Plug on the starter? ??? the starter works fine though? Hell its 3 days new.

like i said, you could put a rag under the fuel feed and check if it gets damp. you don't need another person for that...either way i doubt its fuel related. most likely it's spark. and most likely it's your cas wiring.

Hey I just checked out the pics again...what is the cas connected to? Looks like its going to the stock cam sensor harness (ecu side), but do you have another signal going to the crank sensor harness?

just double check all the connectors that plug in the starter. even if your starter is new but if the connector is not plug in it will not start. just my .02 coz I forgot to do that when I was rebuilding and putting my engine back.

he's cranking...so obviously the starter is connected properly ;)

make sure the coolent temp sensor is plugged in. After i rebuilt my engine i forgot to plug mine in and it would crank and even get a pop every now and then but wouldent start. after i plugged it in it fired right up

So I am getting spark on all 4 plugs, so its not that... also I noticed my oem water temp gauge is on high/hot . I dont know if that is related. Note it never works so im surprised its up there.. when I get a chance ill have to see if its fuel related.... one more thing
to "420". Thanks man I know your just helping. But ### dont refer to me as a kid i am a soldier with 2 deployments under my belt, just haven't learned to use a multimeter yet .
But thank you.
