GVR-4 rocker arm popped off

i heard a noise coming from my head the other day so i pulled off my valve cover. i found a rocker arm sitting at the bottom of my cylinder head. do you think i bent my valves?

Rocker's don't fall off for no reason. Best way to find out is to do a compression test. If the compression is good in that cylinder then you will just have to put the rocker arm back on and fire her up.

I'd try to figure out the cause so it won't do it again. My prediction is you've lost all compression on that cylinder from the bent valve.

You most likely bent a valve. When I bent all 16 about a year ago most of the rocker arms came off.

i checked the compression on that cylinder and its at 145.i already put back on the rocker arm. is there anything else i should check

Are your cam cap bolts loose? That would put alot more clearance in between the lobe and the rocker. Like Tim said, it didn't come off for no reason. I've only seen that happen for three reasons, bent valve, exesively worn cam journals, and weak valve springs.

I had this happen on my 90 gst before it died. I hit the limiter in 3rd hard and it popped 2 rockers. 1 actually broke and had a giant crack in the roller. Valves were bent either. I think it just floated off.

I also have a 90 Tsi turbo..The other day while driving down the road the car sputtered and died all 8 intake rockers fell off and one exhaust rocker fell off. I dont have bent valves. good oil pressure, could it possible be collapsed lifters? The cam appears to have no wear.

That is a sign of bent valves, you done a compression test on it?

If all of those rocker came off then something is very wrong. How is the oil pressure to the head. If you don't have oil pressure to the head the lifters would collapse and then they would do that.

First, you have to find what caused it and fix it. And then reinstall the rocker arm. Otherwise you would possibly drop it again sooner or later.

There is a tool used to reinstall the rollers. It's usually used to change the HLA but the roller is part of that process.
