So, I've been hunting for the best suspension I can get for a 1g. I realized that John Mueller still prepares Ohlins suspensions for our car (he used to build Road Race Engineerings racecars back in the 1990s-early 2000s). So, I've just ordered them on Friday. Very excited – they look stunning. Hope they feel/work as good as they look.

How much did those set you back if you don’t mind me asking? That’s amazing! They look incredible.

Awesome!

These have been on my list for sometime. I got a set of JIC FLT-A2's from him back in the early 00's, but the parts are NLA so rebuilding is not an option. I Need to pull the trigger sooner then later.

Keep us updated.

Expect this to run you closer to $4k for the parts – I'm also not local, so he'll also be sending his specs to a local suspension tuner. So, we'll also have the installation cost (which most can probably do) and alignment as well.

I realize that probably sounds insane, but considering Gucci bags cost about the same amount, this seems like a far superior purchase.

what else are you doing to the suspension?

Killed me with the Gucci bag comment LOL ! Those are by far a work of art, I’ll never be in a position to own anything like that but I can look at those and dream.
If you work really hard and stay focused, you’ll be able to get that Gucci bag. LOL

Those are sexy. I wonder if he'll do a set for a 2g. I still have my low mileage JICs so this would be further down the road.
Check out @Justin DuBois build thread!

Any Ohlins commissioned for a specific chassis will be expensive, but the DFV line is absolutely killer. The magic of the DFV is that they are an outstanding racing damper, while being the best around-town damper you’ll ever have. Rebuild intervals are short, which are expensive, but lots of shops in the US can do it. A set for Evo123 from Europe runs around $3,900 last I heard, so expect similar for the DSM depending on who/where they are supplied from.

You get what you pay for but I have too much on my plate and too many other areas of the build which take precedence so these will have to wait. Although the fear of missing out is real.

Well huh. so there's already a front strut tower brace, polyurethane engine mounts, new fasteners with under 2k miles on them, and I'm pretty sure I bought / installed more rugged control arms back in the day - something OE off another car (which I can't remember), and it has a manual steering rack.

I think the next new purchase / fabrication might be a rear strut tower bracing of some kind, and some kind of cage / safety situation (which you could potentially file under suspension since it will alter chassis stiffness). That might be all that's needed that's left to do at this stage.

What do you think, am I missing anything?

The question to ask yourself with the cage is how many track days will you be doing and will the cage be required at those events vs how often you’ll be street driving it. If the cage is required for participation then there’s no getting around it, however, if it’s not required and you’ll be street driving the car a bit and only tracking it once in a while then at that point many say it’s more of a safety risk at that point than a help as you’ll then have chromoly bars to potentially hit your head on if you’re involved in an accident on the street where you won’t be wearing a helmet (I mean, you COULD street drive it in a helmet but you’d be getting some strange looks). Obviously if your class rules call for it or track rules then it’s a must, as I do have friends that street drive their car quite regularly but have to have the cage as they’re in the 10 second and faster club in a drag racing situation, at that point unavoidable. Not to get off subject but pros and cons to think about I pass on to everyone considering caging their car. Other than the fact my kids enjoy my car that’s what lead me to pass on a roll cage at the time.

I've had these on my car for several years now. In fact it was me that contacted John when i destroyed my JIC's during a track day and was desperately searching out a replacement. My car is the one on his website for 1G products. You will be absolutely AMAZED at how well they handle. If you're road racing, I recommend getting a clutch pack style LSD in the rear. The Ohlins and the Differential were my 2 most notable handling mods. Have fun!

Very nice !

How would this compare to lesser priced coilovers such as Feal 441, BC and the likes. They tend to hover around the $2k mark.

What do the Ohlins bring for an additionnal $2k?
