I was looking in a magazine and they said that Pacesetter made a header for the turbo. Does anyone know about the quality or performance of the header?

I have a a pacesetter manifold on mine that i beefed up the welds. All i can say is they suck. Its not equal length nor does it flow any better. the flange to the head is very small and i had to port mine and reweld it about 3 times. They even have the balls to supply you with Paper made exhaust manifold and turbo gaskets. The header sits to close to the valve cover so they valve cover gasket basically falls apart every. There is absolutely no power gains that can be felt with the manifold. it becomes a little more laggy but not to much. also if its not ceramic coated and is that black color. The paint will burn off an hour after the startup( it smells bad too and smokes). :barf: So yeah i would stay away from it and save the money for something much better. Ill be putting my ported 2g manifold back on this weekend.

Funny I haven't replied to this thread for that very reason.... wonder why he got suspended??? LOL!

I bought and checked out 3 different headers, 1) Pacesetter ceramic coated, 2) a stailess verion from SSAUTOCHROME off of eBay, 3) a DNP.

While I must say for the price I think you'd be hard pressed to beat it, fits and looks great, while it dose have the same quality of the DNP it is not a bad deal at all.

The one from ebay wasn't bad either quality was a little better than pacesetter but the header was into the fan and would have had modify the fan and also the have a square flange for the outlet which would work with the round turbo inlet but not really the best way to go.

I ended up going with the DNP mostly cuz I got a deal on it $375 which is only a $100 more than the pacesetter. The only drawback is the discolorizaton after it get used. If it were not for the deal I got on it I think I would have went with the pacesetter for the price and looks because ceramic don't discolor and I doubt there is any performance differance bettwen the two.

Just giving my input, I bought the armor coated version from summit racing. It came with paper gaskets like 91PlyLaser said. The runners are not equal length and the manifold to head flange was not flat (on the back side of the flange, the side that the flange connects to the head, the runners are welded it such a way that they protrude about 1/2 of a cm), however when I installed it there were no signs of any leaks. The armor coat is still on the manifold and not burnt off. I did notice a increase in power in top end pulls and it sounds straight up mean when you WOT it. Just a warning with this manifold and any other tubular manifold, the heat that it generates is very extreme. It made the underside brace of my VIS carbon fiber hood soft so I said screw it and took it off and replaced it with a ported 2G manifold. I didn't want to deal with melting the underside of my hood as well as fan shrouds and other ish. If it didn't generate the extreme heat that it did, I might have kept it. I thought about wraping the manifold but it would void Pacesetter's warranty and it would look downright nasty due to the way the manifold was constructed. All in all, it a pretty good manifold, it just depends if you can live with the excess heat that it generates.... To those who are interested, here are some pictures of the manifold installed on my car (came off the following day though!) Enjoy...

Just as an update...
I got the colt running last week. I know I can not compare the pull to anything because this is a completle new settup for me and I have not driven the car in 5 months. The car sounds completle different and mean as hell at WOT. As for right now, at 9psi and no intercooler OMG , it pulls just as hard, if not harder than it did when I was running 12.7's at the shootout. I cant wait to get the 10inch core on their and give it 20psi:D .
As for the mani, no cracks, no leaks. I put a couple of coats fo DEI high temp paint (black). It smoked a little at startup, but it is still on their making the manni look good as hell. So far I give it my approval.

hey golden, the reason the welds protrude is to seal around the port better. just incase you didn't know. not trying to be a smart ass or anything. but anyway, i have had my pacesetter on for many monthe now and i have had no problems whatsoever. i am running a 14b at 16psi all day long with a stock ic. i have no cracks and nothing has melted under the hood. and i do thrash it constantly. i could tella big difference with the setup that i am running. i haven't had any problems,so i would have to vote that for the money, its definatly worth it. as soon as i get some new time slips i'll be able to compare the performance difference.

Also that type of external weld (in some people's opinion) is stronger than a weld at the back of the flange and the tube. The later weld will crack easier. I cannot comment on this claim because I am not a professional welder

Really? I didn't know that because when I compared it to my ported 2G manifold, on the stocker, the flange is flat versus the pacesetter one, which isn't obviously, and alot of people mentioned they had to file the flange flat in order to make the flange seal correctly or something, but thanks for letting me know:thumb: So nothing has melted under your hood? But you do notice the increase under the hood temp don't you? Im still debating whether I should slap it back on or not because it just sitting here LOL. Im just worried that something might melt or the heat caused by the manifold will deform my carbon fiber hood........

golden,
i did notice an increase in underhood temp, but its not enough to mess anything up that i have. i still have a steel hood with the heat shield still on. but for your carbin fiber, i would try to put something between the manifold and the hood like it comes with stock. i also don't have my AC fan any more. i haven't had one problem yet, and its been on for a long time. but evereyones setup is different. i'm just saying that it works great on mine. also, i'm running an auto tranny. so when i'm launching at the track i'm sitting there staged at 3500 rpm at 16psi for at least 30sec. that is building a tremendous amount of heat.

Golden, your 2g is not a welded tubular header either is it?
People who file them are worried that they will not seal becasue they are uneducated and do not know that the feature was designed just for that purpose. Im using a felpro copperseal gasket and have zero leaks.

I just picked up my Pacesetter manifold from Summit for $139.00 and i put it on the same day i bought them. My first repsonce was i dident like them because my spool up was different, some times i would spool up at 2500 RPM's and some 3500 RPM's but after some tuning i am at about 2600. im not sure on the HP gains because i havent got to put it on a Dyno and wont get to untill next fall because i am getting ready for a Deployment, But i feel quite a bit of difference and for the price of $139.00 and with my MPG going up to about 24 MPG i would buy the Headers again.

Thats just my $.02

also, what part # was it from summit? i notice they list like. 3 headers and none of them say "turbo" under description.. kinda confusing..

I understand your point, any header that is not wrapped is gonna be hotter than a cast iron mani., but my point was simply that the ceramic coating holds heat in better than any painted or stainless steel one. Also my experiance with wraps is that they promote rust out very rapidly on painted ones!

I am really considering getting one of these now, especially since I love not even 5 minutes from summit. I was a little bit unsure, but the recent good reviews might have won me over. I am however curious what type of modification will be required to fit this on a 1g, and also will that void the warranty?

You "heard" they are no good, and I am telling you that it is good for me, and the other people I know running them. Best bang for the buck I have come accross, and I have a 1g, and it bolt right up no issues, and I doubt it would void the warrenty
