Since it won't ever see the streets, how do you suppose I break it in? Dyno? Do a few "easy" 1/4 passes? Chance it and run it on the streets for a few short bursts around the block? *Oh yea, there's no exhaust*

Ok I just installed a act 2100 and act xact flywheel about 1 1/2 weeks ago...how many miles did you break in your clutch and what were the results?
Andrew

about 300, i was breaking it in at the street races and couldnt resist...

first 2 launches i bogged not being used to it, but got the tires to chirp into 2nd gear every time and windsheild wipers went on.

from my experience id say wait at least 300 or as long as can ;)

It's not mileage that matters to a clutch, it's the cycles and how they're done. You can burn up a "seasoned" clutch about as easily as a green one. But you could have one "broken in" with a hundred-mile drive across San Francisco.

Oh ok I was just wondering cause I did my act 2100 and after 200 miles of aggrivating everyone on the road by keeping it between 2k and 3k and NO BOOST. Im pretty close to breaking myself...but so far so good. All I was wondering is how everyone broke thier clutch in and the results of what they did, cause I plan on doing the act recomended 200-300miles(emphasis on 300) and after that keeping my normal driving manners i.e shifting at 2500-2700 but mixed with a little boost to get around without having to get out and push.
Andrew

LOL 2000 later i still havent launched... but i WOT all the time... but WOT im told cant do jack to screwd ur clutch... just no launching for the first 600-700 miles...

anyways 2000+ miles and still no launches... love my act 2600

Hi my transfer case trashed my entire drivetrain basically so while I'm getting comp'd for it all im thinking of putting in a new flywheel ( I just had a re-surfaced stock one.) I had and am getting a new ACT 2600 clutch. What flywheel would you reccomend for mostly daily driving but the occasional track appearance? Also how many hard miles should I go in breaking in the new clutch and flywheel as well as a new transfer case and used (but new for my car) transmission?

Another question I figured would be appropriate here since my car is out for a couple weeks. What would be the best thing to do for the tranny I'm getting. If i get one with like 100k miles on it and spend 900 to get it rebuilt by shephard what performance am I looking at? Will it be basically like a brand new one? If not what would you recommend in doing?

I put a new Centerforce 1 clutch in my '92 Talon N/A in January or somewhere around there along with a transmission replacement. The car sat in the garage after that for the rest of the winter to avoid the salt on my Northeast Ohio snowbelt roads. The car is a project car, I have a '95 LeBaron GTC to drive when road conditions are crappy. Since spring, I haven't put a lot of miles on the car, but in the past month I've been doing some power shifting and really getting on it. If I'm gonna drive this car only in the summer, I'm gonna enjoy it as much as possible. I've heard somewhere between 300 to 1,000 miles is the proper break in period. I probably have put 300 on it by now, but I'm a little scared that I could have screwed it up already. I'm also just learning to drive stick. What kind of damage to this clutch could I have done?

No, the transmission and clutch have already been replaced. This new clutch has been in the car for about 6 months but hasn't seen very many miles. The car has only been driven about once a week in the past couple of months that it's been out of the garage. And for the most part, that's only been short hauls across town. I haven't launched the car yet with the new clutch, but I've really got on it on the highway about a dozen times. Could there be any damage due to the clutch not being worn in properly?

Yeah, that's probably why I had to replace the transmission in the first place. The car had a bad transmission when I bought it. Second gear was all screwed up. The people who owned the car were complete idiots, they took the car drag racing and stuff but never gave it a tune up. I don't fool around with the car much. I just put a complete exhaust, headers and intake on the car so I've been fooling around a little bit just to see what it's potential is. I'll probably take it pretty easy from now on for the most part. But I'm just wondering if my over anxious toying with the car has somehow caused damage to the clutch since it's new. I haven't been doing enough to cause problems with the transmission unless this ones already about to go. Are 1g DSM's prone to transmission problems?

your clutch should last a while, centerfrces are beats, i had 1 in my mustang, but you are toying around with the worst possible tranny's, ever made LOL, DONT power shift, thats not good for our crappy trannies, but your clutch is fine :nono:

Maybe I'm using the wrong term, when I say powershifting. What is the true definition to powershifting? This is my first manual car, so maybe I haven't been powershifting. Basically what I'm trying to say is I've been "accelerating quickly on occasion" since installing my exhaust. Does powershifting mean not using the clutch? If so, there's no way in hell I'll ever do that s**t. I guess that's why I posted in newbie forum, right?

Not to change the thread around but our trannies do suck, i went threw 2 trannies in 1 month, see i drove it like it was a honda and i wasnt aware on how delicate our trannies were until i learned from my mistake, and sheps advice. Now its been stated powershifting is when you shift without letting of the gas. Hey and dont worry to much about the clutch, i put 75 (break in) miles on my centerforce then i lend the car to my brother for a week i went out on a trip (he drives a wrx) came back and he made a video gallary of my car against evrything in the nieghborhood, i was mad but luckily nothing happend to the car and it still drives like a dream.

I'm kinda concerned about long term damage to the clutch and if it will wear out sooner than normal due to being a little hard on it right away. I always let off the gas when I shift, so maybe I shouldn't have used the term "powershift". I have powershifted by accident a couple of times when I was learning to drive stick, but at low RPM's. That is if powershifting is not letting off the gas when shifting. Like I said, I never had a manual car before, so I'm a little uncertain of the correct terminology. I do have my old transmission in the garage, does anyone know how much it would cost to rebuild it? The one in the car now is just a junkyard one. My old one I think has bad sychros; it won't go into second properly. The car was raced a lot by the previous owner; something that I won't do very much of. If anything, maybe once a month at the strip during the summer. That's about it.

I'm just glad I kept my old transmission instead of giving it to the junkyard when I got my new one. If these things are that bad then who knows when the one in the car now will start to give way. My old one had 120,000 miles on it, if it was original. I have no idea how many miles are on my current one. I think my car was abused on a regular basis before I got. I've fixed just about every problem it had; a broken tranny from constant drag racing, improperly installed brakes, and someone smashed the windshield from the inside, just to name a few.

I hit the 500 mile break in period on the way to the drag strip with my center force(along with a new motor).I beat the crap out off my clutch, you will break something else before the clutch goes
