Question on big turbos

Ok. I agree with you. It just sounded like you were trolling me and wanting to say that your 16g is going to always beat a similarly HP rated big turbo car. Thanks for clarification.

Being the OP

I don't plan on upgrading my e3 till the very end of bulding up my setup so we'll see how it goes

donnie i always make sure to consult you before any purchase so next time i see you i'll have some more questions LOL oh and you can thank me for telling my friend to trade you his 16g (now we can race :thumb:)

You ever try going REAL fast with a small turbo it's not a walk in the park. The real question should be why aren't the bigger turbo guys maxing out their turbos and going faster than the smaller turbo guys. I know I'm not gonna be satisfied with small tubro times.

small tubro times
I hate tubro times too! :D

but yeah thats where i'm coming from
i love the quick spool of my e3 but its a pretty small turbo
if i line up against someone with a 35r or an hx40 they should beat me hands down, but most people don't do the supporting mods to see the full power out of their huge turbo and, in turn, get walked on by my baby evo turbo

Out here in the summertime, 115+, your evo3 maxed out on e85, will pull away from about anything running 91 octane, unless they have a large displacement advantage to start with, IE fox body turbo on pump gas. The key to larger turbo's, as mentioned is to push them as hard as a smaller turbo. High octane, high boost, big turbo, is full of win.

I'm going to start buying all of the supporting mods to handle maxing out a big turbo then
First will be my fuel system, then head work, dsmlink or aem stand alone, and lastly will be the turbo setup

I have enough mods I could make a t25 look good but its like why spend all that money on supporting mods and run a inferior turbo even if it is capable. Go big or go home LOL.

i'm just going to do all the mods that i would do if i had a bigger turbo and then at the very end i'll upgrade my turbo setup

the e3 is a great turbo and i love my external wastegate setup on it
but i'd rather max out a larger turbo then maybe stretch out 400whp on a 16g

Why would you search the Newbie Forum specifically to find an answer to any question? The Newbie forum is in place for newbies to post in to keep the rest of the forum board from cluttering up with simple and repetitive questions. Search the archives, the FAQ, and the rest of the forum to find answers to your questions.

It's not like we rarely discuss turbos around here...

It's not that I go through the newbie forums looking for my answers, but I go through them looking for new, interesting threads. And besides that and the Hangout, there isn't that much activity in the other sections.

Well. That is totally confusing. You said below:

yeah i know, i'm just trying to do some research before i pick which path i'll end up with
after i get rid of my 16g setup i'm going to go with a twin scroll but i don't know what kind of turbo i want

those are the people that i don't get LOL

I know this is a generic question but besides the 35r, what is another common setup that people run for high 10s low 11s?

I don't research in the newbie section looking for answers to my questions 'looking for the new, interesting threads':) . . . They are all in the more meaty sections. Unless you were just changing the subject. . . If thats the case, then . . . follow the rules :p .

In all seriousness, you seam to have the right frame of mind to enjoy your persuit of your goals. Upgrading the turbo last is a very successful way to look at your path. And in the process, you will learn very, very much.

I was just commenting on what Mr. Volk said about my previous post.

I wish I would have had this minset when I first bought my car, I would have stayed with a 14b and just went all of the supporting mods instead of waste all of my money on stupid ish.

If you could help me out with one other dialema that I have, besides the 35r what is another commonly used turbo that can be used, if the owner has the right modifications, to hit high tens or low elevens consitantly on it?

Depends on what you're looking to spend. The BW S259 and Holset HX40 come to mind as great journal bearing turbos in the airflow category necessary to get your to your goal.

Well he was just commenting on your posts. It's apparent you changed the subject. Unless you really were looking for an answer to your question with 'new. interesting threads in the newbie forum'. . .Which I suspect you have enough intelligence not to. Thus you did simply change the subject . . . whisch is sometimes fine, unless you're bickering. Then it's never fine ;). Why post what you said? What's so wrong with the way we do things around here?

Ok, you don't sound like you can't research. In fact you don't sound like you don't know what turbos have worked well with this platform. You apparently know of and see the results of various turbo/setups out there. . . There's plenty of turbos . I'll give you a starting point to throw you a bone. There's a the 55-65mm compressor inducer range for turbos out there. What's the results of all these turbos in that range. And not based on frequency. Based on your goal being achieved versus how many use that turbo.

It takes over 130mph for the decent driver the see a 10second time slip with awd. You judge. . . Which turbos have done 130+ mph, how high are they in the 130s. Some may be in the 140s, but that may be too much turbo for you, realistically. I know what a few turbos have done :) but thats because I've looked out there at all the options. I know what is possible because I've taken each turbo choice possible in your goal range and looked at results. . .

OR! here's another bone, another starting point. In order of smallest turbines to largest:

14b
e3 16g
pte 50-trim
hy35
hx35
fp3052
fp3065
hx40
gt35r
and bigger and bigger. . .

Have you looked at the mhi 16g, dependable, im just throwing this out there.
Already have one :thumb: but i'm trying to what my options are after I do all of my upgrades (I don't plan on saying good bye to the ole e3 yet)

This is perfect :D LOL
Well, I'm off to go look up those turbos and see which one may be on my car in the future.
Thanks for the bone ds-monster.

I'll tell you, if $300 diesel turbo can see 140mph, then you can't go wrong with any of the above.
There are a bunch of diesel truck junkyards in arizona so that would be perfect LOL.
I'm guna get killed on my manifold though.

I paid $100 for my hx40, and $50 for the wh1c i have now. I may put a holset back on my car, but it would be in the stock turbine housing. It took me 3 months to get a bolton housing for my hx40, and it was used. It may be easier now, but my experience with bep has led me to never buy anything they make again.
