Opinion on this hks bov

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

FYI, I took a chance with the knockoff HKS Bovs in the past. You can find my threads searching HKS as title.

The old SSQV knockoff was always doomed to failure, because of the inferior design of the diaphram. And it is not like the Greddy knockoff where you can easily replace it. Once the diaphram rips on the SSQV knockoff, its done, theres no way to really replace it, esp due to theri design.

THEN I tried the Hks Racing Type II knockoff, SAME. it "LOOKED" like the more superior bov, but on the inside it was the same.

At that point I concluded that even the Greddy knockoff is better if you were going to get a knockoff, because again the diaphram can easily be replaced and it will be a working bov.

Your going to have to monitor this "NEW" one you are getting, and compare it to a "REAL" one, to sway any of us to become believers because pass history doesn't already has it on the fail column.

Can't wait to see your results

Thanks for that info redturbo. And the BOV is in !
I inspected it to my best and thoroughly, i saw the (r) trademark in every hks badge on the bov as it's supposed to have, the shiny rainbow-ish looking shine only on the hks letters in the back as the real one would have, so to conclude, it is in fact, a real hks bov. :D
Can't wait to start the car up and enjoy it !

Hmmm, interesting. It does appear to be genuine. Maybe someone that owns one can spot a difference. But to me, it looks real from your pictures. From looking at the HKS website, it looks like some companies will go a long ways to replicate them though.

Just for the hell of it I might just look at someones hks just for shits but this deff is a real hks and I don't think that for such little money a company would go only to a certain extent to even fine copy every detail exact.

Looks just like every other real HKS I've seen just eyeballing it. I had the knockoff and it was very different (and mine worked just fine at 22psi, and the new owner has been running it for almost 2 years still. Just like every ebay part. It's hit and miss).

Enjoy your new BOV!

Thanks trs, and i agree with you 100 % on the hit and miss part.

This fail-ass thought-process will never die. It's been proven that knock-offs are made with inferior parts. We ALL know that. Why support some shit-company that would give two-shits about you as a customer when that 'BOV' fails? Everything has a failure-rate. I'd rather spend a little more to get something that will last years-not months.

That's why a couple of years ago greddy was going bankrupt.
I still call bs on the bov no pun intended. Will maybe hks made millions and had so many in stock they decided to sell at a low price! LOL
Will i saved the bov in my watch list on ebay incase i wanna go back and buy it.
I guess the seller have the feedback listing items bought on private just incase anyone wanted to give a negative review on the bov.

All feedback can be read, i don't know why you aren't able to read them ?
Just cause it came out cheap doesn't mean it's fake.
I'll get some sound clips too for you guys with my phone when i get her started.

No buddy I'm not talking about reading the feedback. Usually the seller will have what they bought to the right of the listing that the buyer is leaving feedback for...
eBay Feedback Profile for speed_in_stock
Everything on the right is set to private!

I can badge a gs eclipse with gst or gsx stickers, switch to a turbo cluster but inside it's still a 420a motor. No Im not doubting the bov at all and Im not heading in that direction.
But yeah post some vids I'll be looking to get one in the future.

Did your packing look like mines.

Just kidding that's not me!

Lol, no problem man i will post up a vid when i get the car started and i know exactly what you mean.

No problem red. I might have a friend who will buy another one that i bought and see if i can compare then that one with another unit.
This one is already mounted and ready to go.

Hmmmmm, this is interesting. I viewed the item on ebay and to me it looked real. However, having a look at the HKS Counterfeit Identification page, I am having 2nd thoughts.

Notice this pic? If you notice the pics that were posted in page 1, it looks like the screws/nuts are from the "counterfeit" ones. What do you guys think?

Compare the pics in page 1, to this one on eBay which is going for $250. Giving the price, it should be authentic.

Here is a better comparison of the nuts and screws that hold it together

Fake

Real

I also notice that all knock offs have different flanges. This is an original HKS flange pictured. Then again, it's hard to tell how his flange looked from the pics provided.

Really hope it works out, I know you asked me for opinions, and I must say I got fooled if this was to be a fake.

I noticed the same thing Chickenpatty, but when I looked at this picture, you can see the ssqv3 has the shiny nuts. So, I'm still unsure. This is straight from the HKS website.

Chicken the nuts on my bov are short, like the real part, and not only that, there is no space as shown in the pic that the body between the nuts look a little spaced, mine isn't spaced. It's been settled, i received the real thing, don't bust your head LOL.

Your nuts are short, but they have a bit more after the head of the nut, like the counterfeit part. You can tell clearly from the picture. The space I do agree, it doesn't have it. It definitely raises a concern now.

take it apart and show pics of the innards. sorry everyone here will be doubtful until that is done heh.

I will say one thing though, holy crap it's a heck of a knock off if it was to be. It had me fooled too! If it was to be one.

I'm all for a working knockoff bov, but the previous ones just failed, so thats why myself and im sure a lot are questioning this.

Only knockoff we've seen in the DSM community with moving parts that perform just fine are the wastegates.

I rather have a failed bov and just have a bit of surge, than having a knockoff wastegate controlling my boost. Engine>Turbo price wise.

yea i feel you, but if a bunch of fast dsms are running them, then its all good to me.

the local guy here, he holds the RECORD for fastest dsm on 14b, also ran 10s with some GTxx setup, using ebay manifold and wastegate. so i kind of have my biases :)

Got a link to that wastegate he is running? I have an eBay tubular manifold myself, it's been very good for about a year now.

Any updates OP?

His car still ain't running so he hasn't tried it out. I don't think he is going to open the BOV neither. At least that's as of last time I spoke with him which was yesterday. ( He lives two blocks from me LOL)
