After reading all of the posts on changing the fuel filter I decided to do it myself and save me some money. Yall were not lying when yall said it was a bi*** and boy was it! I spent an hour and half trying to get that top bolt off and spraying the crap out of it with PB Blaster it finally let loose and my hand nailed the firewall. But it was ok since thankfully it finally let loose. Than came the bottom bolt. :barf: After spending in hour trying on that my dad comes home and I ask him if he wouldnt mind helping. It took him all of 30 seconds to get it off! Me and my scrawny self... :p Thankfully after spending 3 and a half hours working on this, we fired her up and no leaks. Hopefully it stays that way. When I took off the battery tray I saw 2 lines disconnected but I'm going start a new thread on that. Here's some pictures from the install.

You can see some of the PB Blaster running down the filter:

This is how I got that top bolt loose. Just squeeeeze together... :p :

And that bi*** of a bottom bolt:

:dsm:

what a pain that is i remember doing it on the 1g's that bottom nut is always the worst i start soaking the nuts w/PB blaster a week b4 i do it (helps some) ive ruined many lines from stuck bolts especially on northern cars....

I never said anything about low fuel light, i was asking is it better to wait till your gas tank is less empty so gas doesn't go everywhere or could you change the fuel filter at anytime reagrdless of how much gas is in the tank.

wow, I'm retarted I read it wrong.

I had been wanting to change mine, so next time I had the tranny out I changed it. Couldnt imagine changing it with the tranny in, that would suck. Would have been alot easier if the bracket that holds the filter up was alot sterdier, that way it would hold the filter still so I can break loose the nut. Instead it just bends.

I must be one of the "lucky ones" my car has 160k miles on it and fuel filters looks stock. I left the battery in and it only took about 10 min and 3 busted knuckles. My suggestion is wear gloves. Nothing like busting yout knuckles open then having gas run all over them.

I kinked my dang line trying to get it off.

The top one came off easier enough cause I used an impact wrench, however, I was working on the bottom and thought it was coming loose, but somehow I managed to kink the line... YAY, go me!

I have a pipe cutter and a flare tool, so hopefully, with some clamps and fuel line I'll be able to band-aid this one until I can afford something else :-(

Anything other suggestions?

Nope... unless you replace the line all the way back to the tank, that's about all you can do.

try pushing it away from you, but i think you're doing it correct :thumb: but just try to push away to see if it helps, and make sure you have the right size wrench lefty loosy righty tighty. left would be from under the car not ontop.

Um, I figured removing the battery cables to work on fuel related components was more like common sense? So, thats two good reasons to remove the battery, space, and safety. also, why is your battery put in backwards BTW?

It looks like its a Autocraft silver, and if I purchased my battery from a place like Advance Auto. I'd be taking that battery back to get the right battery with the posts on the correct side.:thumb:...just sayinLOL
