what size crush washers do I need get for my fuel filter? Or can I just reuse my old ones.

About to change the filter, and just wanted to have everything ready.

Look at them. If they are pitted or bent in anyway so as not to allow them to properly do their job, get rid of them. Advanced Auto or AutoZone or any place like that sells crush washers either behind the counter or in their HELP! sections. Just take the old one with you and compare them.

Are the washers just on the top part of the filter? Sorry for sounding stupid, but all the writeups i found didn't say. And I don't want to tear into this unknowing

I really dont remember how many it had last time I changed mine. Just buy the kit. It should come with probly 2 of them. Ohh and use some wd40 or penatrating oil on the nuts before you loosen them. I didn't and I broke my fuel line, bad day to be me, or you in this case...

took my old washers all over, and nobody could help.

One guy suggested I clean them with brake cleaner, then reuse them.

They really don't look bad (not bent, fairly shiny, etc)... I am going to try reusing them, I'll let you guys know what happens.

used the old ones and so far so good. Took it for a test drive, and checked for leaks. none. Now i have a piece of cardboard under the car, and am going to check it in a little.

While I'm not sure you want to do this with fuel fittings because of the risks if it leaks but in a pinch you can reuse a copper crush washer by heating the copper to cherry red and let them cool to anneal them. Then clean up the sealing faces with some wet sandpaper. This softens the copper and helps it seal.

Sounds like work...LOL

The old ones are holding up fine. But the bottom bolt was leaking a little the other day. I got a wrench on it and got another 3/4 of a turn out of it. No leaks since I did this.

Steve...I'm sure that heating the washers you can reuse them. I'm just saying that the possibilities of the washer being reliable, after being reused is slim to none. This method probly does work if your in a bind or cannot find new sets of washers...If you are going to reuse crush washers, make sure that you only use them that one time, no more than that, or it's your ass. Just trying to help..
