After reading all of the posts on changing the fuel filter I decided to do it myself and save me some money. Yall were not lying when yall said it was a bi*** and boy was it! I spent an hour and half trying to get that top bolt off and spraying the crap out of it with PB Blaster it finally let loose and my hand nailed the firewall. But it was ok since thankfully it finally let loose. Than came the bottom bolt. :barf: After spending in hour trying on that my dad comes home and I ask him if he wouldnt mind helping. It took him all of 30 seconds to get it off! Me and my scrawny self... :p Thankfully after spending 3 and a half hours working on this, we fired her up and no leaks. Hopefully it stays that way. When I took off the battery tray I saw 2 lines disconnected but I'm going start a new thread on that. Here's some pictures from the install.

You can see some of the PB Blaster running down the filter:

This is how I got that top bolt loose. Just squeeeeze together... :p :

And that bi*** of a bottom bolt:

After reading this thread, guess I should probably do it while I have the chance? :D

I remember the first time changing mine, proper flare wrenches are a must. Got the top off, without to many issues, just alot of force. For the bottom, had the battery & tray removed, me under the car & my old man above. We both braced ourselves & just pulled. It was tight but it came off. Second time I changed the filter it wasn't as bad, able to do it myself (still required a good amount of force to break it lose though)

So I changed my filter on Friday when I got off work. Started on it at 5pm and didn't get finished until like 8:30pm. Getting it out really wasn't a problem as was the getting it in and making sure it doesn't leak. I have a 95 TSI, does anybody know what the canister looking thing is? It's right under the battery rack and has a lot of vacuum lines coming out of it.

Also, can I remove this thing for my car?

charcoal canister.

search for Taboo Speed Shop to find the vacuum line diagrams in order to delete some of them.

Yea i kinda figured that's what it was. I just wanted to make sure. I have the Taboo diagram and will be getting rid of all them lines as soon as my EGR block p0late comes in. Thanks for clearing that question i had up, EclipseTical.

wow...I must be lucky when it comes to fuel filters...I've done them on both my dsms(1g and 2g)...and I've never had that much problem!! flare wrench, regular wrench, and socket...30 min's later and the car is running again!! takes longer for me to pull battery and what not then it does to change the filter it's self!

dido on all the blood sacrifices to our dsms to make them happy!!

just changed mine. i left it hooked to the fire wall sprayed it with pb blaster then came back 15 min later and used and impact on the top then un did it from the firewall and pu the impact right on the filter and a wrench on the bottom line. it came right off.

alright...so on my other comment, I said it was never that hard for me to change a fuel filter(both my other dsms had the charcoal canaster removed)...well now I have a spyder, and this one still has the charcoal canaster under the battery bracket....now having that there makes it a b#$%@ to change!! any suggestions, cause I've tried taking it off, but I can't get one of the bolts out that holds battery bracket on, because of the charcoal canaster...and can't get the charcoal canaster off till I get the battery bracket out of the way....suggestions would be awesome!

Hahahaha gotta love it, Firewall= not so forgiving. But totaly worth the 50 bucks you would have spent at a shop..

I haven't tried changing the filter on my spyder since the time from my last post(it's been 10-30 degrees, and I fiqure I'll just wait till it warms up), but still have the question of getting the bracket off when the charcoal canister is in the way of getting the bracket off, and can't get the canister off because I need to remove the bracket first it seems.

thank god my engine and tranny are out so it wont be as long

I have my trans out also so it wasn't too bad. I have a feeling the Fuel pump will be a different story though because the whole lid is covered in rust.
