Hey guys just a quick dumb question here about a aftermarket fuel filter. So my fuel filter need changed and was thinking about just going with a universal clear fuel filter from Autozone can i do this or does the fuel system need some sort of back pressure the stock filter has. Im pretty sure I know the answer but just thought I would ask before i cut the stock banjo fitting off? O its a 1g auto fwd.

Guys I was asking if I can go inline fuel filter like a clear universal one the stock one that I can get they have to order it and its like 4 days out and I need the car tomorrow. So can i run one of those or no?

Those plastic inline filters aren't meant for fuel injection. Even the "performance" versions have a max pressure of 10psi. If you found a universal inline filter capable of handling the pressure, it would still be nowhere near as good as the OEM filter.

Not worth hacking up the fuel lines.

Those are filters you run on your lawnmower/dirtbike.

Extremepsi sells oem filters for $20. How much cheaper do you need?

or upgrade to a "818" kit

Some of you didnt read the post. Op said he needed it today. That being said it was pointed out local oreilley has it in stock. I dont see the problem. Clear filter in addition to not being rated for efi pressures its clamped onto the line. Use a proper filter with proper fittings. the easiest quickest solution is a stock style filter. I dont know why you would consider any other option.
There is nothing special you would need to do.

While you wait for the filter to come in pick-up the right tool to break that line loose under the fuel filter, you'll want to get a 14mm flare fitting wrench. Most just use a 14mm crescent and round the flare fitting, then resort to a pair of vise-grips and REALLY destroy the flare fitting.

Getting the right tool can turn a 2 hour fuel filter install into a quick 30min swap.

Amen!! It can be an absolute bi*** breaking off a fuel filter on a dsm, especially a 1g that has a filter that hasnt been touched in 20+ years. Sadly enough most people that own these cars never swap out the fuel filter. The last two dsm's ive had have been 1990 1g's,and it was a major pain in the ass breaking them loose. I run E85 at 400whp or so and i change my filters pretty regularily since E tends to clean out all the gunk in your fuel system. Ive been running stock fuel filters and fuel lines for almost 3 years on E85 with no issues,so im sure you will be ok running a stock filter for now. Although if you plan on going for high hp in the future,it wont hurt to upgrade now. I know thats my next step on my dsm,the fuel system. And as you can see by the links provided, its not exactly expensive.
