does anyone know if the Contitech timing belt is any good or is it crap?

Contitech aren't belts to sneeze at. All the European road rockets out of the factory uses Contitechs...made by Continental - one of the oldest manufacturers for rubber auto products "across the pond."

But, I'm OEM all the way with mine..

I run an OEM belt as well but next time I change it I will be switching to a kevlar belt. I don't want to risk stretching with large cams.

I just purchased the Gates Racing timing belt kit. It comes with the balancer belt. I am yet to find out how well it will perform though.

Unfortunatly I could not find alot of information about this particular belt. I did read in one of the posts on these forums, that Gates was, supposably, also the supplier of the Power Entreprise, Greddy and Toda timing belts.

Any users of the Gates Racing timing belt that can shed light on the quality of this belt?

I run the power enterprise TB, but it is noisy. Kind of makes my car sound supercharged, but I think it is OEM ftw

Yeah, that was my thought about the situation. I have driven it for about 8000 miles or so in the past year, with no problems.

sorry to jack the thread.

OEM's are good but after overheating a motor, breaking a timing belt and losing a head due to overheating, I run greddy kevlar belts. They are about $100 and can take a beating. Almost never need another one.

Whatever's cheapest - usually Parts Dinosaur. I've never seen a timing belt break from a genuine manufacturer's defect. Most the time failures are from the belt being over tensioned, improperly installed, or pulleys weren't replaced.

my car was purchased with a power enterprise belt. After 40k the water pump sprung a leak so everything was replaced with a gates belt from carquest. No issues at all with a gates belt on 3 of my dsms. If I had the cash I would have put another power enterprise but I'm not made of money. Theres nothing wrong with the stock/oem equipment.

Did a few upgrades on car and it was time to change belt so I went with a Greddy

I've ran numerous Contitech(oem) belts with no issues. I ran a Goodyear once and put 10k miles but sold the car. I would've replaced that one probably around 30k because it didn't seem to be as good of quality as the oem

I'm another Continental user. I say if BMW, and Mercedes use them OEM? They are good enough for the ol' DSM. LOL Plus I've ran Continental tires on my bikes before, they make good stuff. But I'm in love with Pirelli's diablo super corsa! LOL

run OEM, if you buy cheap stuff you risk it breaking, and something i hate.... the SQUEAKING!!! my previous owner bought a new belt that goes around the alternator and everytime i drain the battery (even for 1 min) ill start the car up and it will squeak really loud! but all i do now is buy belts from mitsubihi, i just stop over at the dealership
