does anyone know if the Contitech timing belt is any good or is it crap?

I have always used Gates and I literally torture my car with no t-belt failures in ten years. I replace the belt and hydraulic tensioner every 60k with no balance shafts.

coming up on my belt change and all this good feedback about gates makes me want to change everything soon as i can. plus they look cool

I have used the HKS fine tune belt and it was pretty good, a durable belt that got the job done well worth the $175 i paid. The gates belt is pretty decent, id stay away from the timing belts on ebay especially those that come with the water pump kit, they break easily after 20k.

i work at napa and we recently bought part of a company called altrom in canada, they do a line of all import parts. i have used their parts on all of my imports and have not had a problem, not to mention sometimes they are less expensive than the napa brand , and we now have acess to parts we didn't before through them for imports like oil pans and such. the parts are also as good as oem and on ocassion better due to modifications they make to fix manufacturer defects.

I am putting together a mildly built motor, prob around 300whp when im done but what timing belt so you guys run out there with that much power. I dont want toi go with the stocker but i dont want to spend a ridiculous amount either. I broke a bekt before and its a mess so what do u recommend.

spending 140+ on a kevlar belt that the factory recommends replacing every 60k is a little overkill IMO. Not unless your putting down some serious HP.

Ill be running a cloyes. Been around parts awhile. Never had any issues with them. Gates/Dayco both make O.E belts as well. Do you think Mitsu actually makes hoses and belts

OEM have proven over again to be just as good. Although I'm sure a Kevlar belt will yield less stretching and fraying I guess you could say. Unless you are rich then go with the good ole' "stocker"

Then why did you start off by saying ...
Why is there someone that has to be so critical in every forum or post? I am huge dsm fan and just knew that in the back of my mind that they are reliable. regardless of all the work that we have to do to keep them on the road.

:tease: :D

Check out extremepsi.com. They usually have some decent prices on OEM stuff, free shipping, and excellent customer service IMO.

thanks for the plug on the website though.

I've ran numerous Contitech(oem) belts with no issues. I ran a Goodyear once and put 10k miles but sold the car. I would've replaced that one probably around 30k because it didn't seem to be as good of quality as the oem
