does anyone know if the Contitech timing belt is any good or is it crap?

replace with a mitsu belt. the greddy belt may be kevlar reinforced but when timing belts break it is the teeth on the belt that usually come off and not the timing belt snapping itself. you are not gaining anything with the greddy belt and it is more expensive.

I'm replacing my timing belt and was wondering if anybody ever installed a GReddy timing belt? I know that it increases head-resistance, flexibility, durability, and reduced cracking from heat, but has anyone tried it? I'm just trying to figure out whether I should just get an OEM one, or spend a little bit of extra money for the GReddy one?

Greddy timing belts seem to work great (unlike most of their other products I've used) but they are overkill for most setup's. A OEM Mitsu belt is all that is needed (notice I did say Mitsu belt & not some other aftermarket brand) & there are a tonn of guys out there making big power on them. A timing belt should be changed every 60K miles regardless of the brand so unless your making huge power which people don't normally run on the streets, your basically throwing away money that could be used else were. If I was making well over the 500 whp range I would probably consider switching to a kevlar belt but otherwiae stick to Mitsu.

Call the parts counter with the part number in the VFAQ, they are the same between Mitsubishi and Chrysler. They might now have it in stock and have to order it.

You can save a few bucks and just order all the 60k parts online (It's more than just the belt that gets replaced) JNZ is highly recommended. Supporting Vendors - Directory

not sure if you run your car at the track or hard on the street, but i would sugest putting in a kevlar belt as they are much stronger and we all know if the timming belt goes so does the rest of the motor. just a thought. but you can get a stock oem belt at the dealer aka "satan"

Yeah thats what i decided to get the blue belt i think its called power technology or something like that. i got a good deal from a buddy of mine that owns a performance shop.

BTW do you guys know if the light cranck pulley will be okay if i put one on? I got it for free and i don't know what brand it is or anything i just know its light and it doesn't have the rubbery part on the inside. I talked to a local automotive store and since i have known the guy for a while he told me that if i buy the oem cranck pulley and drive it hard it will break again. I am not sure if its because he only had the aftermarket pulleys (not the MITSUBISHI ones) or what? Let me know what you guys think

You don't want to run an aftermarket lightened crank pulley. Our cars run harmonic balancers, so unless you replace it with a fluidamper or something of similar concept, I suggest just running the stock one.

The oem harmonic dampeners don't break/ come apart from hard launches or abuse. There is a rubber section between the inner and outer ring that deteriorates over time and then the rubber section tears. A new oem dampener should last you another 8+years or 100k

I know this thread is a bit old but no since starting a new one for a simple question.

Is the Greddy timing belt a Kevlar belt? I looked on their site but it did not specify? They just said they there have been improvements in materials.
I'm looking for a timing belt for my build. You always hear the "Stay with mitsu parts" and what not, but im just not sure what to go with. Any advice?

Greddy is a indeed a kevlar belt.

I was going to get a bad-ass timing belt, but after reading everyone making mad HP with the mitsu one, I have no need for a kevlar one.. But they do have their advantages..

Awesome guys Thanks! i just wasn't sure, i was reading some threads on them and everyone was just like STAY AWAY FROM THEM and i didn't understand why. i just wanted something that could handle power. Even if it is over kill i don't think you can really be Too safe when it comes to your timing belt.

Just got mine put one the other day Power Enterprise kevlar blue TB, which is the same as greddy, i got a good deal on it so i put it on. When crank pulley seperated it broke my timing belt cover and took a big chunk off the OEM timing belt, so i am not taking that chance anymore.

whats better oem or greddy/hks timing belts? i have heard many different things between the two and i cant really decide.

OEM is great and I heard Greddy is garbage, but then again people said if you are making 600whp go with kevlar which Greddy is. I like my Greddy kevlar timing belt.
