does anyone know if the Contitech timing belt is any good or is it crap?

i've always heard always use OEM timing belts..most aftermarket ones stretch badly

Got that backwards....A kevlar T-belt is not going to stretch like a OEM could... If say you blew a seal and it got oil on it.....

Im new to the dsm world, but i am not new to the world of auto part. I worked at O'reilly auto parts for more than 6 years and have had my share of customers complain about belts(gates, goodyear, armormark, topline, and other), but everyone has driven there vehicles over 60k w/ the stock oem belt and im sure that everyone on this forum site has too. I like gates belts myself and will continue to use them, but if you want the best belt regardless of the price, oem is probably what you want for longevity.

Kevlar isnt prone to stretching under higher loads and lasts a bit longer. It is, of course, a bit more expensive.

I would definitely go Kevlar if you are retaining the balance shafts, as thats the belt thats most prone to giving up, taking the main belt out with it. Or you could just do a BSE and what you save between a BSE and a kevlar Balance belt, get a Kevlar main belt. IIRC the kevlars are what, $30 more?

Timing belt? where to buy? - DSM Forums

Personally I used Gatorback, haven't driven the car nearly long enough to tell if it is any better or worse than OEM. If you change your belt per service recommendation, you shouldn't have any problems no matter what belt you use.

Hope that helps.

That is the brand that stretched on me!I got it from autozone trying to save some money and now have a 400.00 head bill from the machine shop.

Several different places make 4g63 timing belts. HKS, Gates, Power Enterprise, Greddy, Cosworth to name a few.

You can run any of the kevlar belts on your 2.0 or 2.4. Getting a 2.0 belt on a 2.4 is tight with the extra deck height, but it will work just fine.

because the oem belts are for use with oem valve train. If you use double valve springs and after market cams it will wear the belt out quickly.

I have another thread similar to this one going right now. My opinion of the Power Enterprise is that its probably not good for really REALLY cold days. I had my car squeal on me when it was about 15-17* here. I thought it was a harmonic damper on its way out until I pulled the belts, pulleys, and the cover and ran it only with the belt and engine mount on. Noise was coming from the belt.

It will probably live up to it's name but just be fore-warned if you get any noisies and dont like them. :|

at risk of getting flamed, i thought I'd share something... I have had cars brought to the shop before because people say "damn it, my belt stretched" and upon inspection, the belt is perfectly in tact with no problem at all, it was simply installed incorrectly. It's gotta be at least once a month a car is towed to the shop for a bad timing job. People need to realize that if you don't know what you're doing, this is not the type of job you want to give the old college try.

We have literally used and sold hundreds of the Continental belts and I love them. A great part at a great price. I highly recommend it. I also like the Gates racing belts, they are a bit pricier but the polymer reinforcement is a good thing to have on your side if you have money invested in your engine.

just food for thought. Happy Tuning.

i think im going to go for the gates. havn't really read anything bad about the gates belts yet.
