does anyone know if the Contitech timing belt is any good or is it crap?

k so i blew my engine running it with a seassed turbo and a oil leak so now the plan is get a 7 bolt frankeinstein to replace it and im hoping i can get away with useing the old head ... but im gonna need at least a timing belt . who sells a good aftermarket one.

any suggestions ? i wanna do this shit right so i dont have to worry about it

most people just usually use the oem one.
but if you want to go aftermarket make sure its a nice one, you dont wanna buy a cheap one and screw up your new frankenstein. :)

Oem from Mitsu are good belts. But if you want something durable, gates makes a good belt. I also second the greddy belt then HKS makes a really good belt i used one for sometime they run around $170 but are worth it.

Gates racing is a great belt... Reasonably priced as well and it comes with a balance shaft belt too. Its a blue kevlar..

Any of the kevlar (usually blue) are good belts, otherwise you can go with OEM... When was the last time your hydraulic tensioner was changed? You may want to replace that as well, there will be no point in having a good belt but your timing jumps because of a faulty tensioner.

i know how that is.... :banghead:

my buddy has one. it might be mine, my belt is toast. the last owner had used a napa belt.

Ever since I overheated a motor multiple mulitple times causing the t belt to break, I run only greddy kevlar belts. They can almost take any amount of heat without weakening. Nice thing when it can safe a head and motor.

The last owner of my gst used a napa or autozone T-belt, its still running fine 57k later. But I'm getting the HKS one when I do the Timing belt.

I don't know if this will help, but If you plan on modding I would go with a Gates Blue belt. It's suppose to be way better than stock, and its blue (it matches my car LOL) It's not too expesive either I paid $120 for mine. Just a little extra insurance, you wouldn't want a timing belt to ruin a 10K motor.

No they do not. some people have went to solid state tensioners with these Kevlar belts. They are great belts but should not be used past the 60k mar even though they say that they can be.

through all the research I have done, it seems that these belts are unnecessary unless your going to do the solid tensioner, have oil saturation problems, or must want the color. Just go with OEM. Gates (Autozone), or Continental. I have a Gates and run heavily modified, no problems (though I change my belt every 30K)

i know i bought a gates performance timing belt over 30xxx miles ago. i went in after this 30xxx miles and replaced a leaky water pump. the belt still looked and felt like it was a new belt. i say if you want a t-belt that will last alot longer than an oem belt then get a kevlar belt. from my personal exsperience the kevlar belts are more reuseable. i know for a fact that AMS used the gate's performance t-belt on there evo. and have reused it after going into there motor over and over. and they ever said there was no sign's of wear or tear. and that was on a over 600+ hp evo. so i say there just alot more versitile because you can use the belt over and over if installed correctly.

The Power Enterprise belts are made by Gates Racing. They just do it under there name. The belts are identical. Gates is a better price. Only thing is that you have to buy both the balancer belt and the timing at the same time. So if you have BS removed then you have an extra belt.

i didnt pay for it so, it doesnt bother me... it only has 800 miles on it.

I just ordered a complete contitech timing kit with gmb water pump for 95 shipped from e bay. I have faith in the contitech brand. I like to read and call people and ask several stores the skinny on the real deal stuff. EVERY ONE I spoke to said contitech is a quality product it has a one year warranty. I have used a couple not so good brands for an FYI. Good Year GATOR BACK= CRAP:notgood: any random belt from autozone that was 15 bucks is going to suck. In my eyes you only change that darn belt every couple of year's. Why pinch pennies on something so critical. The kevlar belt's are fine and they work great. Personally I dont want to spend that kind of money into a belt because I just have no need for it now. Have i yes by all means i dont spend my 200 dollar's a few times. If you only had 100 in your pocket and you know that belt needs to be changed dont be afrid to ask around talk to people. Go find the old guy in your local napa, shout out to walt SBY MD STORE :thumb: you the man, man. Dont be afraid to buy something without a diamond star on it. The world of after market part's has come along way quality wise. Take advantage considering mitsubishi out sources most if not all of its components. You think because it has a diamond star on the box they made it ROFL they do not have time for that mess. Part's sharing is by no means a new concept all the top auto maker's buy parts from suppliers. Its doing the grunt work and picking and choosing the right people to go to that makes it both a deal and a learning experience.
