Any of these will do.

OEM. GATES, HKS, GReddy

All Kevlar enforced belts, just depends on how much you want to spend and what color.

Main thing is you also replace all of the components with it, tensioner, idler, so on.

I tell everyone, before you start modifying your car with performance gaining parts, do all of the maintenance first. Its a little costly, but worth it in the long run to do it right the first time.

Well I always get gates belt from the parts store, never had any problems, but ill tell you what don't cheap out and buy a super cheap this is what happend to one of my buddies, it had like 40 miles on it

This wasn't the belts fault, it was soaked in oil, hence the reason it seperated.. I'm not saying trust oriellys timing belts by any means, just clearing that up.
In my opinion, OEM evo 8 belt.. OEM, reasonable price and kevlar, best of both worlds. Unless you want to pay $100+ for a purple or blue belt :p

Thanks to the parts stores and their Taiwanese suppliers, the term OEM can refer to any part that is meant to fit and perform like stock. Master Pro timing belts are labeled "OEM" and equal in strength to a spaghetti noodle. The term OE refers to factory parts or equivalent. A Gates timing belt is considered at least equal to a Mitsubishi belt, so it receives the same OE label. Not saying it's the correct way, but that's how it's done.

With that said, Heath covered it pretty well. You really can't go wrong with anything from Mitsubishi to HKS, it's a matter of how much you want to spend. The colored Kevlar belts look nice and offer some peace of mind for those running a heavy set of cams and/or high engine speeds. My Gates Blue belt has taken years of abuse and still handles 272 cams with stiff valve springs at over 8k rpm.

However, those aftermarket belts are expensive and have the same 60k mile lifespan. And I've yet to see a standard Mitsubishi or Gates belt fail due to stress alone. In fact, I've seen a stock Mitsu belt shredded down to 1/2 it's original width and still hold strong. So like I said, you can't go wrong either way.

I install the mainly the Evo IX timing belt, it is oe, and Kevlar backed like the "Blue" timing belts.

MD326059

The IX belt is the Kevlar reinforced one, but the MD326059 is the regular one.

The IX part number is 1145A038.

On another note, the other timing belt numbers floating around (MD133115, MD145713, MD171748 & MD182291) are simply old part numbers from the past which were all superseded by part number MD326059. No difference, and no longer available under those old part numbers since they changed the number, around 1996.

Which is why I'm so glad I ordered it all from you guys! Besides, you get that funky smell....Mmmmm.

ive been researching for awhile and i cant find any negatives towards gates. ive found a complete timing belt replacement kit on maperformanc.com. its 272$ if i choose gates and 395$ if i choose oem. what do you guys think about the choice of water pump and the kit itself. DSM Timing Belt Replacement Kit - Modern Automotive Performance

I'm personally going to choose gates because its better then the OEM in my opinion and the belt is one huge thing on the engine you don't want to neglect. And I'm sure everyone will back me on that opinion.

Rev Works Timing Belt Kit DSM Eclipse 4G63

This is the thing you want and its cheaper with the pump.:thumb:

im going with the oem timing belt for sure though. so my last option is to choose the water pump brand. its a 120$ difference beteen gates and oem so im curious as to how good the quality is on gates compared to oem

I usually use a Gates belt and water pump and all the other parts (especially the tensioner) OEM Mitsubishi. The MAP kit looks like OEM parts and the choice of OEM or Gates water pump and belt. The Rev Works kit doesn't specify the maker of any of the parts except for the belt so I would call or email and ask first.

its gonna be cheaper with map if i choose gates water pump and the rest oem. if i do that it comes out to 272$

Don't waste your money on that overpriced RevWorks or MAP oem kit. Go ahead and get the Gates kit. It's $53.64 on Amazon. Comes with timing belt, balance shaft belt, idler pulley, tensioner pulley and balance shaft belt pulley. I also bought a gates tensioner for $40 (which actually has Aisin written on it, just like the OEM water pumps that they make for Mitsubishi). Parts are just like, if not better than oem and A LOT less. Both my dsms are running Gates timing components.
