Not really happy with the black braided -6 fuel lines.

Hello all, I cant believe that its normal for the smell of raw fuel to be so noticeable after this upgrade. I have heard similar complaints with the stainless lines as well. When its hot outside and you drive for a while. When you bring the car inside the garage overnight it smells like a gas station. Its quite ridiculous to be honest. I wonder if replacing all the lines with aluminum lines would be a better option? Just had to vent.. later
P.S. The makers of the lines doesnt really matter cause most aftermarket lines have these issues... I have the STM complete fuel system kit:

I dont have any loose connections and I have the old lines capped off.. The fuel can be smelled if you get close to the new fuel lines and smell the area the lines are in. wtf!.. These issue can be avoided from what i understand if you go with the super expensive fuel lines from Nascar or various Professional race team equipment.

Has anyone else had these problems with the fuel smell? I cant be the only one....
If you have had fuel smell issues please explain, If someone had posted, they smelled fuel through the new fuel lines it might have persuaded you to spend the money on something else that dont have these problems...

I don't have upgraded lines yet, but when I was on the stock system i would smell fuel after driving, then I discovered the line was leaking. Maybe you have a very fine leak somewhere? My new setup will be using the same line so whenever it gets here I'll report back.

I have a small leak just past the sender on the stock line (expect another topic when I get around to wanting to fix it; too much to do now, and the car's not going anywhere) and I can only smell it when I open the hatch. There's a very, very, small amount of fuel just wetting the line, no dripping. I don't know how you could smell fuel without having a leak. Chances are there's some fitting you've overlooked, or there is, indeed, a small leak somewhere in the line.

did you also replace the return line. Normally the line coming off the AFPR is 3/8". I believe the original line is 1/4". May have to put more fittings on the return line hose to seal it up.

You'll only smell fuel if you have a leak. I have full braided line from tank to rail and I didnt' smell any fuel after I fixed my leaks. Stop driving, find your leak and fix it.

Ding Ding Ding.

You ONLY smell fuel if you didn't install the fittings properly. I have full SS lines under the car and the black lightweight hose from the filter to the rail and rail to afpr and smell nothing.

Gaseous vapor will permeate the rubber hose, but fuel will never leak or escape due to this interpenetration. The longer the vehicle will sit, the more intense it will begin to smell. This does not cause damage to the hose and is not harmful in any way.

Personally, I have to put my nose right up to my fuel lines to smell anything. The smell of mine isn't strong enough to be noticed a foot away. If there is an extremely strong presence of fuel, I would be looking for a leak.

This is what I'm talking about. You have to actually be really close to the fuel line to smell the fuel vapors. A very good example is at the fuel pressure regulator that I mounted on the firewall. There are no visible leaks and when I feel the fuel line with my hands there isn't any wet hoses. If I smell this small section of hose I can smell the fuel vapors. This is crazy, no leaks but fuel smell is noticeable.

if you have a gauge on your afpr, does the pressure drop immediately when shuting the engine off?
if the pressure drops and you can't find a visible leak, it may be leaking inside the tank, between the pump and the sender line.
there is a rubber hose there and if you don't tighten the clamps enough, fuel will leak out and turn to mist spraying inside your tanks and the gas tank vent will release that and it WILL smell like a gas station.

check to see if you have the fuel pressure drop when the car is turned off. if you retain pressure, this isn't your problem.

I really wouldn't worry about it then. What you're describing sounds completely normal and worry free.
