So I just bought a 97 GS-T and my mod list is correct as far as I know. There is a few things I'm wondering. First I have a 14b turbo and want to know safe boost i have ARP head studs 1G block 2G ported head, and i think a ported turbo. Currently im only able to get 13 psi so i will check for boost leaks It has a FMIC so possible leaks on that. Also, how easy would putting A/C back in with a FMIC installed the previous owner had it removed i have everything but lines and compressor. The owner gave me an aftermarket BBK throttle body and a big 16G compressor wheel he said you can port the 14b to fit would that be worth it? it has a 1G BOV so if im correct that can withstand more boost.

You need more fuel and tuning mods to crank up the boost. It not a matter of engine strength.

Yep get ready for a long, sometimes painful, mostly fun road. And yes, the 16g wheel will work on that turbo, but youre a long ways from maxxing out that 14b. My zuggestion, get ready to do a lot of reading, making decisions, and spending money

I have a rewired 190 walbro but stock injectors. Im assuming there is a boost leak so ill check that out. Its got 2000 miles on rebuild when I bought so all new belts and such. I've read a lot and know a good bit i've been a DSM fan for a while, one concern is there is a small oil leak ill check that out before I worry about more boost. Next 1000 miles ill switch to synthetic oil. I will get dsmlink and a wideband before any more bolt ons i'm a college student now so I wont be pouring money into it.

Looks like I need to replace the oil pan gasket does the oil pan drop pretty easy?
It looks like it can come out with little hassle.

I'd stay away from the BBK throttle body. They're garbage. I had one on my car and created the biggest boost leak at the shaft seals and huge idle problems. The only plus side about the BBK tb is that it makes your gas pedal feel really really light.

Carry a tool box and hydraulic jack along with a flashlight in the back of the car. SO many time that I would have been screwed without them.

You have stock injectors, so the maximum safe boost is stock boost, which is around 10psi.

Also, there is no oil pan gasket. The oil pan uses a bead of silicone sealant instead. Grey or Black RTV will do the trick.

this car is getting me through college its gotta last 4-5 years I just want a quick car that keeps going.

Fast, cheap, reliable. You can only pick two. For a college student who needs the car for daily transportation, I would leave it as bone stock as possible.

I agree with Wes completely. I had a 97 GSX in Arizona when I was going to college down there and I should have just left it alone. Nothing sucks more than breaking down on the side of the interstate in 100+ degree weather over 100 miles away from campus. I had hardly any money and as a result I had a giant paper weight that I couldn't drive and was forced to sell it at a huge loss.

Yep I definitely his same problems but mine was due to the previous owner doing a really quick and cheap rebuild to sell it and i fell for it but luckily I manages too keep my paperweight and now im getting to doing a rebuild and doing it right. As far as mods Ive learned a lot and plan on keeping whats on it 3" exh and fmic and running low boost until im financially stable enough to get a bigger turbo and go into more mods but i want to have a non daily AWD when i get to that point until then i still have a quick good looking DSM:)

Well take it slow and youll learn about dsms quickly, do what you can on a college budget been there, done that, just keep it simple to stay on the road, when you need it, as in any car, anything is suspect to break. if it can fail it can, thats my motto to a point.

Here's a tip to a new and excited owner: Do not shred/gut your interior.

Sounds plain, but after years and years of owning the car, there are just some things you can't take back.

Word.Especially if you threw that stuff away.I'm in a process of putting that stuff back in,PITA.

Doing a rebuild right requires good quality parts. Since the block is coming out, eliminate your balance shafts, get oem gasket sets, Kevlar timing belt (not necessary but it gives me piece of mind, oem would work) revised lifter, arp head studs (looks like you already got them), forged internals on a 6 bolt block. Boom reliable block. Just my .02
