Hey everyone,

I am currently in a position to get a 96 Eclipse GSX. I'm going up to central jersey to check it out, drive it etc etc before I make the decision. The car is very clean and from pictures looks pretty well kept, It needs some work but Challenge accepted.

1996 Eclipse GSX 5 speed, its got a 6 bolt swap, 16g turbo, greddy type rs bov, apexi turbo back exhaust, fmic, 6 puck clutch, greddy PRofec B spec 2 boost controller, AEM wide band A/F guage, Alpine flip out. Its un-tuned right now at 8lbs, runs and drives fine as his daily. He's asking 3600 for it. What concerns me is the timing belt of the 6-bolt mainly, I know they need regular replacing but I'd like to have time to learn it all hands on before NEEDING a new one right away. Anything I should pay attention to or look for?

Let me know, I have an 02 3G GT right now.

That 9k car makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Mine must be worth about 12k then. Guys shopping for dsm,, come on over to Colorado and shop the denver craigslist, CO springs too. Good deals, because we have a bunch of them.

If that means you're paying for my round trip air fare as well as shipping expenses then sure! LOL

Btw I saw that CL post, and that guy wants 5k for a not running car.

Is it just a new jersey thing? Everybody here overprices and over values their cars.

The ecu expects the air the mas has read to be in the system.

I've already checked out the car. It just needs fluids and the map sensor mounted.. and the current deal we have is 4700....lots of brand new parts, and the body is immaculate...been garages most of its life..he just had it down because of the 6 bolt swap and new parts installed.

I would give 4g for that car immediately. Matter of fact, if I were anywhere near,, I have 4g for it right now. Rare color, low miles, stock, auto. 4g is a great price for a great car. Im amazed at how newbs are drawn to craptastic unfinished projects just because there are fancy words like 16g or fmic... The car in that last link could probably sell for 6 or 7 g if the seller were to advertize it that way and hold out for a true dsm lover. THAT IS A GREAT CAR FOR A DSM NEWB.

If I were anywhere near,, I would buy it,, give my wife the panda and drive the auto myself. I freakin like that car. MMM,, the only thing that would make it better is if it were a 2gb talon.

Believe it or not, the autos handle more power stock then a 5 speed. Plus the autos don't loose boost in between shifts like a 5 speed does. I love mine. Auto > 5 speed all day IMO.

The man speaks the truth. I am on this site, craigslist, autozone, cars, treasure hunt, flyers, private investigator just to find a decent one. I was actually looking at the hillsborough one but I dont have a job yet so every decent deal i see hurts. But if you havent seen this one yet check it out, hes asking 2grand to much but see what you can do

I understand the performance benefits of the automatic but anyone else would agree that you loose much of the fun factor a 5 speed offers... M/T always

That car is long gone my friend.

That sounds like a winner, but still, is it a Gm MAF with a translator so the BOV can vent? And if so, where is it? All I see is the regular 2g MAF, and unless I am missing some other tuning device, the BOV dumping to air normally will make the car stagger and sputter between shifts.

The reason that un-circulated bov's are bad on stock maf cars is because your car is measuring the air that's going in if your letting it out before it goes in your car it's not giving a correct reading hence the hesitation and sputtering you see on un-circulated cars the only reason it is acceptable to open air bovs with gm Maf is because the maf reading is usually taken after the B.O.V so you are truly only taking in what your car is reading.

Thanks for your input though, I already solved this awhile ago. Yeah ill be getting a gm mad to run VTA possibly. We'll see.

Thanks for all the info on the discussion. Does the GM MAF have any other advantage than allowing for venting to atmosphere?

Bet that car is long gone by now...decent care...ok price for a mid-west car.

Its truely surprising that the BOV venting to the atmosphere is having no ill effects on the car sputtering..if you read on the site here, all over the place people say "RECIRCULATE" LOL. The reason being, the engine computer SHOULD get confused by losing that extra air that the BOV is releasing and, in turn, should make the car sputter because of the lack of that extra air. But if nothing like that is happening then I say DAMN GOOD JOB! Very clean GSX for the money!! I still beat all you guys out on the price I got mine for though! LOL :D

Question, and please guys stop answering the ones that are on page 1 that have been answered like 4 times already LOL. Is there any major mechanical differences between the Eagle Talon TSI and the Eclipse GSX? Any parts or issues that make one better over the other? I know the cars are virtually identical except for the rear end and a few other key points.

Sorry man everyone replied as I was typing my answer! Lol

But not to my knowledge..there shouldn't be any "major" differences between the two.

The bumbers and wheels are different, the rear spoilers, and other cosmetic things, other than that they are the same car from a mechanical stand point. It really just boils down to preference, I think the 2g eclipse is better looking.....just my opinion....:thumb:

Alright thanks. Well the eclipse gsx that I posted first is back for sale. I'm also looking at a caliber srt 4 that came into my dealer so we'll see
