New Dsmlink ECU, trys starting;backfires;dies

So i bought Dsmlink V2. + Ecu off someone with the OB2 Cable..
I went out and bought a Dynex serial to usb cable.

I came home, took wires out of old ecu and plugged into the Eprom/dsmlink ECU,
I go to crank it, takes like 2 extra cranks to turn on.. and hits 200 rpms and backfires and smells rich...

Wtf is going on?

I took it out and put the old ecu back in and heading to work.. Can someone fill me in ??

Did you switch the plug wire order (or re-wire the coil pack)? Did you adjust the dsmlink for your injectors?

I haveta switch the plug order?? I didn't touch anything..

Also; i havent even gotten into the ecmlink program.. it won't connect for me.. I gotta re attempt to install the driver software the cable came with..

But fill me in with more information about the plug order please.

Are you using the v3 software? If so, you have to change the connection configuration to tell the software to look for a v2 chip.

The previous owners setting are still on there that's why your having a hard time starting it. Install the drivers for the cable go to configure connection on the app make sure it's set up correctly. Then after all that is done put the key into the on position and connect to the ecu and put in your appropriate settings.

Yes and that will get you a very base tune and then you go from there

You also need to zero out everything else that is changed on the chip, as airflow, fuel, and timing could be changed.

Once you get in to the software, take a log (car doesn't have to be on) and post it up and we can tell you/do for you what should be changed to what.

Also, keep in mind with a v2 chip you will lose any settings you change when you disconnect the battery. It will revert back to the original burned settings when the previous owner (or whoever it was) purchased it. So if you're driving along and somehow your battery becomes disconnected, you need to have your laptop with you to reload your settings or you won't be going anywhere.

Yes, you need to...

1. Change the setting so the software knows your using v2.5
2. Change the plug order
3. Check the cam sensor inversion box (if your not using a 95-96 cam sensor)
4. Change injectors to appropriate size,
5. Zero out fuel, maf, and timing sliders.


Also, make sure the correct MAF has been selected.

Did you check the link I posted to make sure the usb to serial adapter you bought will work? For some reason with mine, I have to open ecmlink then plug in the usb cable. If you do not have the COM ports configured correctly, that could be your connection problem.

I had the problem with having it in the wrong port, i just picked another one conects fine now.

He won't need to zero out any settings as with v2.5 he's lost them all when the ecu was disconnected from a battery. The injectors though are probably burned for the previous owner's 770cc injectors so he'll need to adjust those.

You should also select the Invert CAS option in the ECU.

how do I configure comm ports? I bought a serial to usb from brag buy.. Starts with a d? Dyrex or something. .. And it said on the Link that It works for 2g... But I thought when I go to my computer it should say something is there ? Nothing comes up..

Shoot dybex don't work with vista.. Does radio shack work with vista?

I had no luck with the radio shack one and I have vista on my tuning laptop.

You can get the Keyspan adapter between 20 and 30 on the internet. Bring back the other two and order it, then be done with it.
