So I bought a 2G with a replaced driver door handle. I know because it has its own key, while the other key works all the other locks and ignition. When I try unlocking the driver door with its key, the alarm sounds. I have to go to the passenger door and unlock it with original key. What did the person who replaced the door handle do wrong so that it's not tied into the factory alarm system? And can I have the new handle lock re-keyed so that the original key can be used on the new handle? I'm used to key fobs... what a pain going back to using keys.

:ohdamn:

There is a plastic switch with electrical wireing that attaches to the lock cylinder on the inside of the door, if it's got a broken tab or it's not conected it won't deactivate the factory alarm system, just go to your closest junkyard and buy one but be careful removing and replacing them, they're fragile especially if they're junkyard items. In my opinion just open your passenger door, the driver door will unlock if you have electric door locks and that way if some one tries to steal your car It'll go off on them, oh.. and yes you can have a locksmith set up your new lock with your old key

+1. Pull off your door panel first and check to see if the switch is plugged in to save you a trip to the yard.

he might have even installed an aftermarket alarm. my cars last owner hooked up an aftermarket alarm system and the car has no power locks and i have to use he key. but i have to hit the unlock button and then use my key or the alarm system will go off. check if there is any other alarm system.
