2G Door handle rod

I searched and couldn’t really find anyone with the same issue. Long story short I was replacing a broke door handle and ended up seeing that this rod I’m about to post pictures of is bent and even broken at it be part. I need a solution here what do I need to replace.

bonus question, the new handle has areas where there is a gap like the two l shaped brackets connected to the actual handle. I was thinking to fill these spaced with plastic weld for more strength or support is this a bad idea? Could it work?

That rod is probably going to be a junkyard part. I can only find it on 2 parts diagrams, neither of them provide a part number.

Maybe @dustyboner can help you find a part number, he's good with those resources. You'll probably just end up sourcing a used one.

Junk yard. That's the rod that connects the door key to the locking assembly (for locking/unlocking). Mitsu only sells the entire locking assembly with it.

Thank you both for the response. I hope this isn’t too bad of a job I hate working inside these doors . If I have tomorrow I’ll try to see what I need to pull out and what can be replaced.

I’m honestly thinking about drilling out the pin the rod connects to and replacing with a nut a bolt any thoughts? I know people add a nut and bolt to this mechanism to sometimes combat a door handle that doesn’t work. I can kill two birds with one stone here. If I’m missing something please let me know, if not I think this will be the plan

I did that for both my handles and it works great. No need for drilling, just use a 8/32 screw. Be sure to double-nut it to prevent it from coming loose.
