LOOK at new Ebay 16g turbo and exhaust setup

there is one company on ebay that has a ported big 16g with short route fmic, header, and hks knockoff bov, and a mbc for under $700 and comes with 1 year warranty on everything, if anything breaks for any reason they replace it free not a bad deal considering there are soooo many people who "have tried" or "know someone who had" ebay turbos and they blew up after 200 miles 1 year warranty should most defininately cover these here-say cases, OP has had his on now for a more than a weeks or so, he probably is over 200 miles and has not reported any issues...

I can say for a fact it is way heavier than a MHI turbo. The 18g I bought to replace the blown ebay turbo was way lighter in hand.

One more thing. If the turbo does blow, pm jusmx141. He can rebuild the turbo pretty cheap with genuine MHI parts.

Nope. Sorry to disappoint, but it's still working.

I've got about 100 miles on so far. I took it out the other day and boosted quite a bit at 14psi.

I just turned by MBC half a turn so I I should be up to about 15psi next. I also checked for shaft play and I have zero in/out and less than 1mm side to side.

IIRC my knockoff was lighter then my MHI 16g. After i got the replacement ebay
16g i went to ship it, the thing weighed like 15-16ibs.

Usually, and I'm not saying all, the knockoffs use heavier shafts and wheels. It causes them to spool slightly slower than a real MHI turbo.

Boost numbers really don't mean much. How much air are you flowing? What is your hertz count at WOT at peak flow? This will balpark how much you're pushing the turbo.

I feed my setup off the head and have no restrictor on it. As far as boost on a daily it sees 25-27 psi easily. But like i said I went and had it professionally balenced so maybe thats made a diffrence in why its lasted 4k miles so far.........best investment off ebay ever

well I see more haters good luck man. you should be fine. ebay turbo are not that bad I've been building turbo's for some time now and I have used more then one ebay turbo that has lasted some time. like they say you get what you pay for.

I don't care what anybody says or if "somebody's best friend's brother has had success with eBay turbos". Buying something as important as a turbocharger on eBay means you're taking a huge risk with your car. If it shits the compressor wheel, you can kiss your motor goodbye. I wouldn't take the risk.

alright here's my air flow at 24.61 lbs/min max.

I'm still running strong with about 400 miles on.


I can't go any higher than 15 psi right now because I hit a fuel cut the other day.

So i'll keep boosting!

"Ebay" Turbos aren't made by eBay! They are just sold on Ebay just like the real thing. I just pulled my Ebay Sold Evo 3 Big 16G off cause it was leaking oil, after owning it for two years now, making massive power, And guess what, Its being fully rebuilt with high quality internals by GPopShop for 110 bucks shipped! Balanced and everything! BEAT THAT!

donswan, 600 you say? Buy an ebay turbo for how much? then have a company rebuild them with the right internals for cheap prices and you have a REAL Evo 3 Big 16G for Half the price of what you just claimed.

The cheap turbo's sold on Ebay, are made with weak internals. They work just as good as the real thing, but have a short life expectancy. You pay 600 something for an Evo 3 Big 16G with good internals, You pay 225 shipped for the SAME TURBO, but with cheaper internals on ebay. You get the same performance out of it, just shorter life. A respectable company like GPopShop will rebuild it for 150 MAX with the highest quality internals. You just spent 375 for a HIGH QUALITY Evo 3 Big 16G!!!! Thats 225 bucks in savings right there!

I've played with TONS of Ebay sold Turbo's. 50 trims, 60-1's, 16g's, you name it! I've also owned the real thing! Just sold a Turbonetics 60-1. couple months back had a 62-1 Turbonetics. Ebay sold turbo's are a good investment if you have the patience to buy the turbo, send it to a shop to be rebuilt to the highest standards and wait for it to be shipped to you. I just put my 14b back on, to send off my 16g that was purchased on ebay a couple years ago, to be rebuilt and when I get it back, it will be brand new, cheaper then what I originally paid for it, and higher quality.

Friend of mine, just dyno'ed at 620fwhp on his SRT4 off of a turbo he bought on ebay. If you are building a budget build, these turbo's are GOLD! Nothing beats them, and I do mean NOTHING and NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON CAN ARGUE THAT! Already I've shown how you can save money and get the same performance and quality between the Gucci and the WalMart Brands. With that savings you can go and buy more shit to add onto your car. Or hell, you could even buy a spare turbo!!! Tubular manifold and O2 housing for better flow. Intakes, Injectors! New Tires! WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH 225 BUCKS!

I cannot believe all the idiots that say the same shit like "its going to blow up right when he starts the car", and its ironic, cause the previous post was of the OP saying "Just did a few pulls and its great". Another guy keeps arguing about how bad they are, and another said they are great, and claimed its 50/50.... I believe I count! I've owned and purchased numerous turbo's from Ebay. So Has Jeff, and I see he even posted claiming good results as well. Jeff is a respectable DSMTuners member. My 16g from ebay was purchased two years ago, has been on 3 cars, a 97 Eclipse GS Spyder, a 91 Galant VR4, and now my 94 Eagle Talon. It just now started smoking after two years of use, beating and severe abuse. However, it still boosts fine! I'm actually trying to contemplate what to do. Run my 16g that lets my car smoke, its embarrassing, or run the 14b that doesn't smoke at all... but be gutless.

I have my big 16g turbo bought on ebay for 2 years now and it is still boosting strong with no problems at all at 14psi. I have 22,000 miles on the turbo.

My ebay turbo is just fine. I have been very impressed with it. Now i'm looking into getting delta regrind camshafts for 200 dollars with H.k.s. specs 264/272 combo. I can't wait to see the results.

A real MHI and chinabay turbo are not the SAME thing. Although good/similar power can be made on the ebay turbos, they are not the same. First off the ebay turbos, typically use wheels made of pot metal, which is heavier and causes more lag, than the lightweight evo3 wheel. The inferior bearings as mentioned, among other differences.
Real MHI turbos, have proven themselves in instances to last 200k+ miles.
I recently bought a used real b16g for $125shipped on ebay, that i've put over 1k miles on already and will probably outlast 10+ ebay turbos.
And a 14b is capable of 300whp+, so I wouldn't exactly call it gutless for something you could buy used for less than $50 and can last a long time.

OK we all know that most of the "ebay" turbos are junk, but why would you buy a clone knowing its not going to last as long as the original? Its cheaper to buy a real 16g, not have to replace it, or have the turbine crap out and destroy your engine.

Im not going to argue about if they are exact copies or if the ebay pulls harder than the MHI. To me its pointless to argue over a ticking time bomb.

To add. The log shows 24lb/min flow. My stock 14b saw 24lb/min flow at the same boost with all stock parts in the engine bay. . . Just the boost turned up and 2.5" crushbent exhaust. The 14b has a smaller turbine housing than a 16g. So why didn't the "16g" see more flow than that at the same boost?

The turbo isn't being pushed at all. . .

The chinese 16g turbo uses parts from two different rebuild kits. So add the cost of the two kits plus the balance, and you could have bought a better turbo all together used off ebay that comes with lighter wheels.

Then why buy one? The 14b is very capable of that boost level and obviously produces similar results at that boost. And if it's blown, just rebuild it for far cheaper than the ebay turbo. And As well you won't have to worry about maybe having to buy another one in the near future.
