LOOK at new Ebay 16g turbo and exhaust setup

yea, i don't usually like to get in between people who argue over a good and bad car part, some people just can't afford the high end stuff, and gamble with the little they spend and hope for the best. but when it come to warranties, i think that alot of companies come up with the rules as they go. i now am going to be in the proscess of building my like 19th awd eclipse from bone stock to maybe 450 at the wheels. i've put alot of money in their pockets, and on a 900.00 turbo they let me down horribly. i guess it was a 900.00 learning experience for me, even though i still have the sour taste in my mouth from it almost a year later. matter of fact, the warranty that was on it will end in the end of july........( hint, hint slowboy) maybe ill send it back one more time To see if they will warranty it I DOUGT IT LOL

Hey ive had the same turbo setup after my 14b took a crap. Get the thing checked out cause mine wuznt balanced. After i had it checked at a local shop its been running fine. Got about 3k miles on it at 17psi. Just dont trust it if u goin to see track time......it'll melt!!

Looks like a nice setup. I myself don't like to take chances and just recently received my new mhi evo3 16g in the mail yesterday. I like being precautious and doing things right the first time.

i was not even going to get in this thread, but since you brought up the warranty issue with these ebay turbo, now i feel i must.
i bought about 3 thousand dollars worth of internals from slowboy, including a brand new pte 61- something. i paid for it, waited a month for it, never recieved it so i called, for two more moths i was told it was back - ordered..................... after another full moth i had to settle for a smaller 61-31 i beleive it was. i asked about the warrany and who honors their warranty, and was told i tthey (slowboy) does. so after a complete engine build and running the car for three weeks with a 16g , i finally get my settled for turbo. on the car for 3 weeks and it starts smoking. i send it back to them and they tell me that they have to send it to pte to see if it was my fault. i put the oil feed line where they told me, installed the right way , never over boosted (like 18 psi max). after a week i call them and he (jason, which i dont think he still works there) told me that the oil was contaminated. im thinking " what? , contaminated, how? new oil as this turbo went on and my engine was already broken in" i argued with him for hours. he says that pte wont warranty it,,,,,,,,,,,, after he tells me that they themselves warranty it to me /// i did not buy the turbo from pte's website. i bought it from slowboy so please lets not talk about chinese or japanese and their warranties
so now i still have a 15 lb. paper weight

So slowboy has warranty claim rep like a chinese company and PTE turbos aren't reliable:). That doesn't make ebay turbos look better. That isn't really part of the discussion. There ARE brands and companies that do have quality in their manufacturing. There's several other turbos you could have paid for or paid 90% of with your $900. You could have afforded a new or used holset or a new or used BW.

Did you feed from the head or the OFH? did you bshafts or not? did you run a restrictor? Lot's of questions for another thread. If you have any remarks on chinese knock off turbo quality, I'm sure we'd all like to hear :) .

i hooked the turbo up the way that they told me to, and i didnt say that pte is junk, i was just stating that i got a bad egg. thanks for your .02
also, someone was saying how the ebay turbo warranties suck, so if i just wrote how companies here suck, op would still be trying to understand what i meant. so i figured id give them my experience of a GREAT company here !

The turbo came with a blue "Quality control card". It supposedly shows the test data from when the turbo was balanced. It looks kind of cheesy but it also has the serial number on it for that turbo.

Model: TD05-16G

SN: KD090002517

BTW: I got the car running with about 20 miles on the turbo so far. It's not a lot but ti didn't explode when I started it up. So I'm getting my walbro 255 in and then I will boost:thumb:

I'll post how that goes.

Thanks

Are you feeding from the head? Please do, I would love to see a turbo last when installed the right way. This should clear up the myths with all this "he said she said" stuff. Do your thing, testing is what made our motors what they are today... because someone had an idea :aha:

Id personally like to know how that manifold holds up after a while.
I've got a SSAC o2 housing and so far I've been very happy with it. (I took the liberty of removing the only flaw in it I could fine, the inside welds were a little sloppy. Nothing a die grinder and some progressive polishing couldn't fix)

All companies "suck". The difference is the parts and contruction :) That's all my point is. I understand. I think the op get's your point.

Status:

Walbro 255 installed w/ rewire.

So far boosting 10psi and running great.

I did a few pulls today through 2nd and third and it's good, but I want to turn the boost up to 16psi tomorrow.

Here's pictures of install: By the way I think my exhaust valve seals are leaking. I can see oil on the valve stem in the picture that goes into the head and there is oil on the exhaust gasket in the other picture. Agree?

looks good so far.:applause::thumb:
off topic... Some turbo's are made Mondays and then you get those that held up that are made FRIDAYS. 50/50 right!
Shoo, if I get a good deal on ebay I'll probably take it also. Why not down low all the good stuff. I scare everyone with crankwalk because I want to be the only one in town that owns one!:shhh::tease:

Yeah I think undehood temp is higher now. I had to give my throttle cable some slack because my cable housings heated up more and expanded causing high idle.

It looks good yes.... But thats what i thought before my similar xs power exhaust manifold cracked within a week and my knockoff turbo was shot. It may of looked good but it didn't perform good.

Not to the OP, but how are you going to call people with experience on this topic haters. They know their stuff and are only trying to help.

Notice the "Supported Horsepower Rating"? I've looked at the ebay 16Gs and a lot of their sellers state that they're good up to 16psi, I think that's why dsmer's see them fail so often compared to other guys, boosting above 16psi is very common to us.

Good luck though, and please keep us updated.

Do these ebay turbos have an oil restriction in them?

Mine doesn't have one as far as I know. But I didn't use the head oil feed hardline that came with the kit. I think if there was a restrictor it would be in that hardline.

I'm running my oil feed from the oil filter housing which I can do since I still have balance shafts. Otherwise the oil feed pressure would be too high.

I'll keep posting how the setup is doing.

i also have an ebay III 16g and have been running it for almost two years now, and in the past year ive been beating on it at around 30psi most of the time. i guess you really just have to get lucky.

btw im running my oil from the oil filter housing and its workin out fine with no restrictor.
good setup tho, if i didnt have a ported evo III manifold i would go for one of those tubular ebays. i snatched the tubular o2 housing from ebay tho.

the increase in spool from the cheap o2 housing and manifold...somehow...makes up for the higher price of the faster spooling MHI?
i also hear rumors and have gandered at proof of some higher flowing ebay units out there...

i dunno but i really need to stop typing and dyno my car. and see what numbers these spinny parts can kick out after getting themselves in a frenzy.
...hopefully ill be thrilled by the results...
thrilled
thrilling
thriller
now im depressed again.

It looks good. I would like to see honest testing and evaluation. Not off the cuff condemnation because it came from ebay. There maybe some longevity issues with a lesser priced knock off item I don't know. But if you make an informed decission about risk/ reward you should be OK. We would all be well served by the facts so we could maybe have a cost effective way to better enjoy our sport. Some people will always buy the "brand names"or the "best" and that's OK. I'm looking for quality and price not necessarily a brand name. Keep us posted as to your results All the best.

They do. I'm one who ran one and it blew, BTW (already mentioned that). What's the percentage :) ?

BTW, I really wouldn't count the guys who buy the ebay 16g and only push it to common 14b performance. The 16g is a 300+ whp turbo EASILY. So if it can hang on for 20psi, which is easy for a real 16g to do, then please give all the success stories after a few thousand miles. Otherwise, it's a new chinese 16g vs. a stock used 14b not being pushed. . . And who cares then ;). . .

Well I can't wait to see some results from this thread. Even though I have my own opinion on long term usage:p
I would think we would have some feedback from the OP, it's been a week already:confused:
