Is xtd stage 4 junk or was this just a bad part?

I had this clutch in my car for less than 1000 miles. I broke it in perfectly since I only used the car for was to drive to work. I never launched it yet. I got on it a couple times but only in gear no hard shifting. I hear people on here with the same clutch with no problems my car is mostly stock running 15psi. I have polyurethane motor mounts and 3 inch turbo back, but thats about it.
Well I tried to up load my pictures of it but its not working. basically all the rivets sheared off the center section. The clutch is under warranty, but I am sick of taking my transmission out so does it even pay to put the same clutch back in.

I hope it was a fluke, I'm expecting one to show up this week.

get a good clutch man, you'll love it. XTD are all bs...i really doubt their pressure plates are rated anywhere near what they advertise. I had a "stage 4" and my act 2600 blows it away...

oh yeah it only lasted 13k miles :(

I've run them for years, held up to an hx40 fine. Sounds like a bad install. If you let the trans rest on the disk during install, this will happen. As for act, i rebuilt a trans for a guy because of one. The splines stripped off the disk hub, and ruined his input shaft.

Yeah I hear good and bad about them. but I also hear good and bad about act also thats why I will never user a sprug center again. Is it worth it to put the same clutch back in. It was less than 1000 miles and it broke apart.

I'll keep you posted on how it works out, but good luck with yours should you get one ;)

Well, the thing is...it works. The question is - for how long? In my case, I wish I would have went higher quality to begin with because I had to take the tranny out a year later to replace worn out disk (which was starting to dig into the pressure plate itself). On top of that, the stage 4 pressure plate feels like stock pressure on your leg, so I doubt their credibility when they say it's 2300 lbs...

Lies..LOL

more like mid 200's if that.

hah! i was going to say something but whatever...maybe he has another car he's talking about.

Well I just sent out all the waranty info. So Ill let you all know how great the costomer service is. Im just worried about putting this same clutch back in. If I had a dollar for every time i took a dsm tranny out.... Id still be broke putting all my money into my car LOL.

Not trying to sound like an asshole but are you sure your doing everything right? Only reason I say that is because you keep having issues.

What could I be doing wrong? I replaced everything. If theres anything you think i could have done wrong let me know. I followed all clutch adjustment procedures from RRE's page the clutch worked great till this happened. My clutch pedal is rebuilt. I even went and made special studs I put in the top holes on the block for the bellhousing to rest on. So I dont have any chances to have the tranny hang on the imput shaft.

What about...flywheel stepping? And clutch alignment? Those two being off can easily chew a clutch to bits. At least that is what comes to mind.

I bought a new act flywheel. It didnt need to be stepped, but I did check it before I put it in, and I checked It after I took the clutch off and its still good. I used new through out bering and fork and ball. When I installed it origanally I had to take the back out two more times. Once i had to shim the ball the next i had to take a shim out. The only thing I know that I did wrong was not greasing the through out bering. I will remember that this time because the noise got anoying.

Was the transmission allowed to hang unsupported from the disk during install? What was the install method? Did you use and engine hoist to lift and support the trans during alignment, and install?

I went out and sized up longer bolt to put into the top two holes on the block. than I cut the head off the bolt. The tranny is not that heavy so I just lift it up to the bolts, and I have a friend align the bell housing on the bolts. The tranny is supported on the bolts before I slide input shaft into clutch disc.

The customer service for xtd was great they are going to send me a new clutch disc and pressure plate.

That is good to hear. I have used these for a long time and never had problems. The only thing i ever had doubts about was their customer service.
