just got an xtd stage 4 clutch and i am pretty nervous in putting it in.. not sure what to expect.. people say its good but i saw the supra forum and its fake.. . stock PP with 6 puck. . i just got mine today and it looks like the stock with a 6 puck. . what do u guys think.. IS XTD Stage for just that?? a stock PP with a 6 puck??

Its a decent clutch really. The XTD stage 1-3 have the stock PP but the stage 4 defiantly uses a heavier pressure plate. :thumb: This is the next clutch i will be putting in my car also:D

Funny thing, i was just showing someone today how easy it is to roast all 4 tires with my xtd stage 4. Was also holding 27psi like a champ. The 1-3 are junk. The 4 is a better unsprung disk, and non stock pp.

oh ok.. yeah cause it looks stock .. look i got this pick from some guy online.. stage 4 i believe looks like mine .. it next to a stock clutch.. looks the same to me thats why..

i have to decide today if i want to put it on.. not sure yet still.. maybe i will.

and i know if i put it on i have to break it in for 500 miles. should be done in about a week for me since i drive to school alot.. about an hour away.. LOL.. but everyone try to reply as fast as u can thnaks..

You've used each of those?? Cause unless you have you're just making it harder for someone to make a REAL informed decision.

I have personally been running a stage 2 for about 5k miles so far in my fwd. I've gone down the strip at least 30-40 times, sometimes 2-3 runs back to back. No slipping problems, no heat problems. I am in the middle of converting to awd now and took the clutch off and had a look. All the springs are perfect, disc shows almost no wear and the PP looks great. So far I have no gripes with this clutch which I CAN'T say about ACT. :notgood:

I think you are over thinking this whole pressure plate issue, of course its gonna look like your stock clutch its based on the same design with increased pressure.

I have ran a stage 2 for over a year on my spyder at 20psi and i love it. great price no problems

got the xtd stage 3 in my GST no slipping, no problems with heat, took it down to check because i wanted to be sure and sure enough, no scratches, no marks, no broken springs, It holds like a champ with 3.5k launches. kinda heavy on the clutch foot though, but that's the way I like it.

I broke a clutch and pressure plate (ACT), then I put in a Fidanza 4.3 (sprung 6-puck) and all the springs broke within a couple thousand miles. I've now been running the XTD Stage 4 since last summer, and it's awesome. I'm running it with a Fidanza lightweight flywheel (which I DID NOT replace the friction surface on), and I took it easy the first 500 or so miles to break it in. I did 15 launches at the local 1/8 mile, most of which were one right after the other, and it held perfect every time spinning my tires through 1st gear every time on a hot humid night.

The XTD stage 4 solid 6-puck is an amazing setup, especially when you consider the pricetag being 1/2 of others.

1 thing: Get a decent throwout bearing though, the one in the kit is JUNK! In my car, I left the TOB from the Fidanza kit in it, and I'm glad I did after my next experience. I put this same clutch in a 99 GSX that I fixed up to sell, and the TOB made a lot of noise right off the bat. I'm glad the buyer didn't care, cause I wouldn't have wanted to pull the tranny just to put in a decent TOB.

I've worked on/driven/fixed every type of clutch/turbo/transmission/fuel, you can imagine on a dsm/gvr4. The Street disks are all garbage for launching/holding big power, from any manufacturer. The sprung pucks ALL pop springs when abused enough. For any real torque (over 400lb/ft), an unsprung puck is the best holding of the single disk clutches, without using a crazy amount of clamping force. I've ran a stage 4 at 38 psi, without issue. I have personally seen many of the stage 2 and 3 pop springs, with stock boost levels. It's easier on a clutch in a fwd anyway. The wheels spin before any real stress is placed on the clutch, in most cases.

<--- Yo. I was very impressed by the holding quality. Engagement was fantastic as well. Hotter it gets the better it grabs. It will most likely be my next clutch upgrade.

Been daily driving a 6 puck sprung for a while now, using a exeedy 'stock' replacement pressure plate hit with a ball hone, as well as the flywheel for a year now...no signs of slipping.

yeah i just put it on and used the stock tob, clutch pedal feels hard to push down. replaced master cylinder and slave since they were both bad car feels good now. but am going to buy royal purple tRANNY oil tomorrow. i think i will get the most miles on it the fastest,.. i drive my car alot and really far... . i will let u know how it goes.. its an unsprung stage 4 xtd clutch.. . . . will not go in boost for 500 miles. right now it has 25 miles on it...

and also for the people who voted no on the poll. can u please explain why?/ please thanks

If you look they're all newbies, probably haven't ran one and are just jumping on the "ebay is junk" bandwagon.

Everyone else i've spoken to that actually runs one, or been in a car with one, likes them. They clearly aren't the typical ebay pos product. And, for the price you can't even come close in holding power/launching. My car isn't what i would call a beast, but i ate up a stock disk using a 2600 pp in about 4-500 miles of good use.

XTD Are damned good clutches. The AWD Talon had one on it when the 4 bolt rearend gave it. LOTS AND LOTS of hard play on it from me and the previous owneer. XTD Clutch and Pressure plate held up fine.

I am talking about 3-4k rpm Launches. 1,2,and 3 gear drops (5th to 2nd, 5th to 3rd, 5th to 4th etc), I was kicking shittys (donuts) in the talon more than once.

Stage 4 is a very very good clutch IMO.

I've personally seen 2 fail on dsms. Both had sprung disks and both had the springs fall out of the disks.

Although I have heard some good things about their stage 4 unsprung setups but just like any unsprung 4 or 6 puck disk it's noisy and takes a bit of getting used to.

yeah i heard that this is their best clutch. . read a lot of dsm forums before i decided to buy it. . everyone said unsprung.. .

Keep in mind that although their best clutch is an unsprung disc, most people choose to avoid unsprung discs due to driveability issues as well as the fact that unsprung discs tend to do a lot more damage do the drivetrain since they don't have the dampening ability provided from the springs.
