Is light crank scoring ok?

    I don't want to disassemble and buy a whole new crankshaft if it's not all that bad. It's light scoring I can feel with my fingernails. It's overall more smooth than scoring tho. The 3rd journal is not scoring just dirty. 20190408_162404.jpg 20190408_162535.jpg

    The rule of thumb is if you can feel scratches with your nail it needs to be polished. I'm sure you can slap some new bearings in and it will run, but for how long will be the question.

    The only thing that crank should be used for is a paper weight. That crank journal looks like it has layer of aluminum bonded to it.

    Yeah, that doesn't look good, I wouldn't chance it as cheap as you can replace it for.

    Agreed. that #3 journal is effed. best case it might be salvageable, but i doubt it.

    The point is why the op is doing this. I remember that he said in his other post that he rotated the crank a couple of times by hand then some bearings got damaged because of dirt/debris. So our suggestion would be the same like we already recommended him that clean everything up and rebuild properly with good parts.

    Agreed.
    May be that it's dirty, but that #3 journal looks undersized and the finish looks poor. Still could just be whatever goop is on it.

    At minimum the crank needs to be taken out, properly cleaned, checked to specs and machined if possible. Issue is it may not be worth it, just have to pull it and see.

    Thats crank is done, short of you machining the journal undersized which some say is not recommended , it is unusable. Notice he similarities?

    edit: got it now, had to read that a few times

    all I know is that looks like some NAR NAR to me

    Look around for a parts car or partout. you could find a crank way better than that for a couple hundred or even less if your patient. I picked up a clean never torn down shortblock for 150 last summer, for example.

    Agreed, and being a 7-bolt it's far easier to find a good crank than a 6-bolt.
