i guess i will look at the weather stripping

it mainly happens in carwashes. with the high pressure water, it leaks through quite a bit. i havent noticed it during rain.

as far as i know the car was never in any accident so the hatch should be aligned. the weather stripping looks good and while i have taken the car through car washes, the window itself doesnt appear to be leaking. i only find water below the point where the hatch meets the car. i think it will probably be the drain holes. i will look at them soon.

I found water in my hatch after all the rain from Ohio during the Shoot Out. It's was coming in from the bottom gaskets under the washer fluid reservoir. That could be your culprit. I called to the dealer to get prices and order them, but they could not find them. They wanted me to go in, but I never did.

I had this exact thing happen to me this weekend at the high pressure wash. Water streamed a bit in through what appeared to be under the mirror, at the lower right of the window (as you look at the driver's door from the inside) It wasn't a ton of water, but I noticed it happening on both side.

I tried reading through this thread, but didn't really see this particular leak addressed too much to figure out how to fix it.

Any thoughts?

Does it only happen in harder rain not light rain? I'll bet it's your windshield trim. It happened to me. This is on my 1G, not sure about a 2G.

Crud builds up under the trim so the water can't flow down and out. It backs up all the way to the roof seam and leaks inside.

Remove the trim and clean out the debris so the water can flow all the way through. I even had to use a razor and trim away some blobs of sealant but I don't have water leaking in anymore.

this could help you. i am going to check it out also.

Pull up your carpet there are a couple drain plugs under the undercoating they use, those were my culprits. Chip off the undercoating from the indside seal those plugs back up and reundercoat both from the inside and underneath the car.

i cleaned out the drains in the hatch and my carpet is dry now. it seems like there was more water than there should have been from that one drain. i havent had any hard rain lately, but the rain i have had hasnt made its way into my car.

Where is the drain hole? I have the same problem also but mine is much bigger in extent I have it litterally flooding underneath the foam of my back seat. The plastic piece under the hatch fills with water too?

Need help ASAP...

If enough dirt, leaves, bugs, etc etc get clogged in there then yes. I blew mine out a week back. Lots of crap stuck in there from the flower petals. Oh and by the way, this thread is over a year old.

I wouldnt say its common but its just something to check. If that hole gets plugged the entire "gutter" around the hatch will fill up and may leak past the weather stripping pending its condition.

The weather stripping for the hatch is brand new. There really is no visible leaks other than the panel on the hatch...

It may be possible that it's leaking through the little screws that help hold the wing onto the car. Some of the bolts are adjustable and it could be that they need to be sealed with an RTV or something.

I had the same problem on my car - I installed new drain hoses, siliconed the wiper and center brake light hole and it still leaked. Then I took the wing off and sealed everything around it and it still leaked. I then took it to a glass shop and had them take the hatch glass off and reseal it - the leak stopped.

(Another stupid Question):beatentodeath:

Can I blow it out using my air compressor with an air nozzle?

Yes you can. But To be 100% sure its not clogged you might want to take the inner panel inside the trunk out so you can see the drain tube, then you'll know for sure if you got all the crap out of the tube.

found out my problem wasn't the drain tubes there not clogged at all, It was the hatch glass is leaking at the bottom and it leaked into the plastic panel. Also I found out unfortunately it was previoulsy wrecked. So there was a weld in the back that leaks like a flood so Hopefully some RTF or 100% silicone will seal her up tight.

I have a 99 GS, my sunroof leaks, I am unable to find the sunroof drains, where exactly are they located?

Thanks!

There is a drain at each corner of the moonroof. The ones up front are easy to see. But the ones in the rear, you have to actually remove the headliner to get to anything . . . those drains are way back up under the roof.

Another thing to check is at the rear of the moonroof opening, there is a metal tray that spans the width of the hole.

95/96 moonroof cassettes were designed to have that tray actually spring-loaded (would move forward and backward just slightly.

97+ changed the plastic mounting bracket to have that tray be fixed in place. The problem I've found with this change is:

-When fully opening the sunroof, it stops when it "hits" an obstruction
-The obstruction it is hitting, is this plastic bracket
-Over time, the plastic becomes brittle and is subject to break.

When the brackets break, the next time you open your moonroof, that water tray will be slid up underneath the rear of the roof. So now there is nothing to drain the water that enters the rear of the moonroof off to either side.

So in short, make sure the metal tray at the rear of the moonroof opening overhangs by about half its total width. If it's significantly less, you probably have some plastic brackets to buy.

Other than that, definitely check those drain holes for blockage and your moonroof frame for rust.

Good Luck

We had some really bad rain these past couple of days and just recently I noticed that my windshield started to fog up pretty bad. I looked around and saw that my whole passenger side floor board was soaked with water and had to use a bunch of towels to dry it out after lifting up the carpet. My problem is I can't seem to find where the water came from. Only my passenger side was wet. I could not find anywhere where the water could have come in. So my question is if anyone knows where it could be comming in at?

Could be several places. My guess is the window. Frameless windows are easy to leak. Another area to look for is underneath the carpet. There's a rubber plug there. If it's missing and it's splashing hard, water can get in through there.

My window seals aren't perfect but they only let in a drop here or there definately not what was on my floor. When I pulled up the carpet I looked at all the rubber seals and they appeared to be just fine that's what confused the heck out of me.

Is there any sort of rubber grommet around the firewall on the passenger side that could be causing this?

I still don't think that it was the window, any other suggestions?

There is a grommet on the passenger side where the engine harness goes through. But you have a better chance of water leaking in through the window than through that grommet.
