Hey gang, well I put in a new HU and blew my stock speakers in my 97 Talon ESI and was looking to replace my speakers. I'm looking at infinity kappas. Anyone know what size I can fit in the front and rear?

Thanks

Marc

depends if you have the infinity system or not. Most likely if you are ESI, you don't have it. In that case, you have 5 1/4's in your doors and 6 1/2's in the rear. With the infinity system, you would have the #'s posted directly above ^^^^

The non-infinity system cars can be easily modified to fit the larger speakers (if you have a dremel tool).

What is the maximum front speaker size that a 97 RS front door can fit. I'm in the process of designing a component system, and want to know if I can fit a 7", or even an 8" in there.

I have 8's in my doors of my '97 Eclipse. I removed the plastic mount that holds the factory speakers, traced it onto some 1/2" particle board, cut it out, and then cut the hole for my 8. I use Memphis MS8's

Would the 8s have fitted without any particle board, just by taking off the plastic piece?

Clean, I know what I'm doing when it comes to soundsystems, I'm just trying to figure out the maximum size driver that could be fit in the door, as I'm designing my own component system.

So I take it 7s will be no problem, and will require no modification?

well i got the 6 1/2 i think MA Audio Synergy series with a big magnet on it and they barely fit...

6X9, search around- if you're looking to replace them, the problem you'll run in to is that there's no damned depth behind them. Crutch says they have nothing that fits, they used to sell an Alpine that was shallow enough, and many have use Mr. Mallet to introduce Mr. Wallop to the wheel well to assist in installation.
There's also a good Infinity speaker that's shallow enough. And many abandon ovals for round speakers.

ok, so i measured my speakers tonight; front and back. sorry im the furthest thing from a audio wiz. i thought the front ones were 5.5" and the backs were 6.5x9.25
all i can find is 5 1/4" for the front, and 6x9 for the rears.
are these the real sizes??
or are 1g speakers hard to replace?
thanks

I have a 1990 Eclipse (1g) anyways the rear speakers and the door speakers for mine are both 6 1/2". I am not an expert on car audio but I have installed a few systems in my time and I looked at mine myself and awhile ago when I went to Circuit City (before I looked at them myself) they looked up in the book and it said 6 1/2" also. I don't see how yours would be 6 x 9"s in the rear:confused:

you could go to (or call) your local car stereo shop and have them look your car up for you also if you want.

Hope this helps,

:D :dsm:

I got 6x9 in the back. I think the fronts can go even bigger then listed. I remember reading about someone who put 6.5 with no problems.

I have seen many post on 1g cars and there speaker sizes, but I can't seem to find an exact answer for a 2g car. What is the dash speaker size and the front doors and the rear panels? I want to know the factory size. Thanx.

i sure didnt have 6x9 in the rear and 6 1/2 in the doors. i had 6" in the back and i think 5" in the doors. but right now i have 6" in the back and 6 1/2 now in the doors. i had to cut the mounting brackets in the doors to fit and put mdf spacers in the back for them to fit.

hey defiant why was mine like that did they do that for some of the year in 95 then switch or what?

phil

I honestly think it has to do with what trim level you had, or whether it is infinity or not. Maybe even whether it is an Eagle or a Mitsu...

Mine already had the rears changed out to 6x9 Alpines when I got it,
had an infinity amp but with a pioneer head the doors did not work.

I yanked the inifnity amp, bypassed it and hooked up a set of passive crossovers I had left over from a set of fosgate 6.6 components to get the tweets and doors to work, when I pulled them they were 6.5s in the doors and i cut the back half of the factory bucket off and putin a set of kicker 6.5 midbasses (not midranges).
Am going to add in a set of Qforms and my 5.25 Mb Quarts up front, keep the alpine 6x9s in the rear and have fun! Sohould give some ral upfront presence with bass mid and tweet upfront.

I thought eclipse gst's had 5.25in speakers in the doors but when i removed door panel and took out stock speaker my aftermarket 5.25in speakers were to small. Are the door speakers 6.5in or do the stock speakers just have a bunch of crap around the actual speaker?
