dude, my rs stock door speakers were like the size of tweeters....i now have 6.5's on em, but they rattle against the door

Ah - and now a little lesson in searching.

You could have gotten your answer WAY quicker this way:

1) Click "Advanced Search"

2) Enter applicable keywords like : "door speaker size"

3) Click "Search Now"

4) Read through the threads that the search engine brings back. Like this one. Or this one. And who could forget this one!

The search engine is WAY better since the upgrade - give it a shot ;)

yea. in my back i managed to squeeze in 6x9's but i regret it. I had to rout out basically the entire mount to fit em, and i had to make a wooden spacer to accomodate for the bigger height, but either way it rubs against the panel

Is there anyway to know what I have without acually taking off the door panal and measuring the speakers? I have a 97GSX if that means anything

Depends on which stock system you have, for the 2g's it's either

5.25" in the front with 6.5" in the rear

OR

6.5" in the front with 6x9 in the rear

in my 95 GS my front door speakers are 7s, yes 7s. I had to drill new holes to put in the 6.5s. My rear ones are 6x9

I'm guessing you measured the speakers with measuring tape, in other words they are 6.5" speakers. 7" car audio speakers are not manufactured. Sometimes the measurements of speakers can be deceiving epsecially depending on where you are measuring from.

if u really dont want to or cant take off the panels, go to an audio store, they can usually tell by eye, they look at enough speakers, but i just took mine off

6.5 in front 6x9 in the back
I disagree with the 6X9's in the back if they are round they are 6 3/4 not all clipse's had 6x9. the door ones are 6.5. i couldnt find rear speakers to fit so I had to hack up the mount to fit the 6x9's.
I had went with the assumption that I had 5.25's up front and 6.5's in the back. Bought em started to install damn 5.25s don't fit so I try the 6.5's in the door bingo perfect fit. Try the other 6.5 in the back no go. Noone sells the 6.75 round speakers around here(even best buy was out) I buy 6x9 cut the mount they fit but don't sound great.
so there are THREE different speaker sets.
5.25 front 6.5 back
6.5 front 6x9 back
6.5 front 6.75 back

Umm i have 6.5 all around. I had bought 6.5" front & 6x9 Back, went to go install and the 6x9's where way too big. Went back to cartronics & returned the 6x9's for another pair of 6.5" and they worked perfectly...

fyi there is no 7"

but there is a 6.5 S (supersized) thant measures 6.75

on a dsm you can use either one of the 6.5 sizes.

i am guessing 18 gauge...just start with 16,,,if that doesn't work use 18...if that doesn't use your teeth...LOL

the wire itself is about 18-22.
small enough that you don't need to worry about it.

what kind of fubar stripper makes you set the wire diameter?

mines 2 inches stripper...
ahem
i meant 00 gauge.

;)

The fancy automatic wire strippers, as well as the cheezy sharp pliers have notches for different size wires. Youngsters often think the markings matter, but they figure it out soon enough.

Yes, I did a search and still have this stupid question, because Crutchfield list the front door speaker size as 6 3/4 and some forum members said 5 1/4 fits. I don't have a clue if my '95 Talon came with the Infinity system. I have the non turbo ESi or something like that.

my front speakers are 6 1/2 and my back are 6x9. my rear panels dont fit exactly the way they should but theyll squeeze in. it really all depends on how big the magnet is in the speaker.

look thru the rear grills, or pull them off and see what you have
if its an oval speaker you have 6.5S (aka oversized 6.5's / 7" / 6.75) up front and 6x9s rear.

if its round you have 6.5 rear and 5.25 fronts

despite crutchfield's best efforts their "directory" is replete with errors, and not just DSMs but fords gms etc too.

the fronts are not 3.5s!

best bet is to cannabalize/modify the existing speaker basket to hold a 1" silk dome tweeter... I have seen this done somewhere on the net and it looks stock from above and is not too difficult.

metallic tweeters sound too harsh at high volumes for me and reflecting off glass would really accentuate this problem. SIlks are smoother but don't "go as high" as metallic tweeters, however at high volumes they dont make you feel like you are in a pain generating machine either.
