Interior Water Leaks threads [Merged 1-7] leak leaking hatch sunroof drain drains

do you have a sunroof? sometimes the drain tubes get stopped up and fill with water then when winter comes they freeze and crack the plastic drain tubes, and water will run down under the carpet.

To find where its coming from you could rip up the carpet at that corner, get in the car with a torch and have someone squirt the car with a hose. I have seen some cars leaking at the top windscreen seal and the water runs down the A-pillar, behind the kick panel and onto the floor.

Thanks guys for your suggestions im thinking its the door seals so im going to change them this week because water only gets in when im driving...but ill let you know how it goes.

It can also leak around the flow-thru ventilation port on the right rear side, the gasket around the hatch, from a clogged sunroof drain, and through the rear wiper pass-through.

and body panel seams
quarter panel rear window
hatch window gasket
seams at rear tailights
body to rear bumper bolt holes (and a gap between the sandwiched sheetmetal @ same location)
fuel door to body pane joints/seams
spoiler bolt holes
(rear bumper may have to come off on the vent port leaks and bumper bolt holes!)

Had water coming from pass side between the outer skin and shock tower. It runs passed the sunroof drain hose and puddles near the bumper vent in front of the taillight
found a 2' hole where when they replaced the panel, they didnt pinch the seam together and body caulk it in this location (behind the wheel well where the wheel well and quarter panel skin come together. Water will come in there due to the capillary action of water and as such if water runs down the gutter, or down the sides of the car or anywhere on the quarter, it will re-appear indie the car from behind the shock tower. Truly ellusive
I sealed it. But waters still coming in. the search continues..

Sounds like the same thing I'm experiencing. Water pours in when i go through a car wash. and its from behind the sunroof drain tube. Has to be coming from inside the wheel well somewhere. :banghead:

found 6 holes 3 of which were def leaking, fixed all 6
the bumper the body bolts were leaking, water came in where the metal overlapped in the bolt hole, fixed that
removed bumper cause it leaked from the bumper vent towards the front and from the lower fastner clips holing the bumper vent on, removed and rtv silicioned those. . had a leak at the quarter glass at the top, sealed that. so repaired actually 5 leaks so far but 6 holes and i still haev thos pny annoying leakd. not matter where i place the hose on that side..gas doror, wheel well, gutter, bumper, tailight, it still leaks from behind the sunroof drain no matter what... let mek now what u find out...
i'm pulling the bumper again tomorrow... so just to let it set...

i tested the leak the next morning same thing.
I took a mirror, flashlight with the panels out and had my wife hose the pass side
I looked and watched the water. I have another leak at the gas door at the bottom where the panel and the gas filler alcove are caulked or welded together
O used clear silicone and wiped off the excess and tested it!.

I Still have a f*ing leak! However it reduced ithe leak down but 80% as it must be leaking from sev places at one!
So now only a tiny stram that you almost cant tell ist moving comes in and takes a while to build up buts its still a leak...

I will soon post all the leak locations to look for in your own troubleshooting
So it looks like i'm down to 1 small trunk leak and one small pass door leak!
If anyone here finds anything out, let me know!

Instead of starting a thread that has beaten a dead horse enough I thought I would just post my question here. As you may have guessed, my car leaks. I have narrowed it down to three distinct leaks. I don't have a headliner, A/B-pillar trim, sunroof, or any hatch carpeting.

Case 1: When I'm driving in the rain I notice a drip every 5 seconds coming from the front end of the seat belt track. I think this may be from the door trim, however I have yet to find a tear.

Case 2: When I get in my car after a rain I can hear the lake sloshing around the hatch area. I'm fairly certain this is from the hatch drain tubes, however I am not positive where they are. pics please idk. When I get my hatch halfway open their is a rush of water out the sides of the spoiler so I have to pause and let it drain off, even though it usually drips into the hatch at that time. Does anyone have an idea as to why the underside of the spoiler is collecting water? I guess that means that the spoiler mounting holes aren't the culprit.

Case 3: When i open my hatch all the way up after it rains the water starts to drip into my driver side passenger seat. I think its from the boot that the wiper wires come through at the top of the hatch on the drivers side.

Any help/advice/incite would be greatly appreciated.

Wow these cars are such garbage. Keep us updated on the leak diagnosis.

well mine was in an accident in fairness
but yeah its no toyota, nissan or honda in the piece of crap ratings system, thats for sure

ok

i had to run another layer of clear silicone over the joint inside the gas filler area where it meets the quarter panel sheet metal

so far, i stopped any water coming from above.

i found yet another leak location to the right of the bumper vent, near the wheel well, with the bumper off. I siliconed that..
i found another one in the wheel well, siliconed that.

i have 2 leaks left..one at the pass front mirror area and on still in the hatch area..
i found the approximate cause of the remaining hatch leak.. its somwhere from under he wheel well on the tailight side where the wheel well and the quarter panel come together
so now i can only get water to come in if i take a hose and spray the wheelwell from underneath.
We will see if driving thru a puddle.

Other than that, if i can get the pwr ant to quit getting stuck in the up position, i can spray rust converter in the trunk at the leak entry and puddle locationsand put all the lower trunk panels back in..

pics to come soon at all the leak locations..

now i need extra suggestions on the pass mirror triangle to door seal leak, which i think wa started by changing the drip mouldings...

I still can't figure out where mine comes from in the trunk on the passenger side. Its like in the back corner. I was back there as I went through a car wash and it like poured in. i have no ####ing clue, trunks rusted LOL

A common leak on 1g and 2g cars is the body line from the quarter panel and bumper to the the tailights. Water will run along the taillights and then along the seam except on the inside of the vehicle and then puddle up in the corners in the trunk. The best way to fix was to remove the taillights and apply clear silicone to the seams and remove the trunk paneling and apply silicone along the insides of those seams.

It seems like its coming from the corner where of course you cant see. Like maybe through the bumper mounting holes to the quarter panel? Idk can't wait to get out of DSM's. 4 1/2 painful years

I guess when you buy a dsm it should say "Results not typical" with a picture of sheps car. LOL but yes the mounting holes are also a source of a water leak try some clear silicone. I can't say I've had any bad luck with my dsm in 3 1/2 years. A clutch and water pump was all its done to me. Im so far deep into this dsm game I'm buying another one. I pretty much convinced 4 of my friends to get them too. THEY LOVE IT!

Found my leak. It was in the fuel door. If you look closely you can see like hairline cracks all around it. Now I need to find a black body caulk or silicone to fix my shit. Any suggestions? :D

Not sure how good it would look or how creative you are but you could try using black window sealer urethane. It can be purchased at napa for around 15 dollars a tube.

still working on pics..mine had been in an accident and when they replace or repaire the panel then didnt caulk the area under the wheel well...that was just one large leak of several small leaks... i had one at the fuel door,, it was along the bottom.. i sealed it with a very think layer of clear silicone on the outside..u cant see it at all as long as its neat and clean and thin...i had the leaks at the bumper to body bolt heads on the pass side, as well as a leaks at the passenger side bumper vent bolt holes.. i sealed thsoe up with blk silicone..there is a body seam when u open the trunk, between the sheemetal and the chassis underneath,..seal that line..its right above the tailight where it meets the sheetmetal at the trunk joint..it is a vertical seam. now i have to fix a leak at the passenger triangle/ the mirror has water coming in...

I think I may have fixed my trunk leaks by fixing the fuel door and the bumper mount recaulking

I'd just like to stress the importance of unclogging the drain lines for the hatch. once i noticed this was happening, i looked where the spare tire is kept and i have a whole about 3 inches in diameter that completely rusted out, and i can see the ground through it. Wish i would've noticed this problem much sooner.

My trunk is orange and one of the grommet holes has rust LOL

ok I read 9 pages of q and a about water leaks and haven't found anything that really helps my situation. I have water getting into my convertible, i took the rear seats out yesterday and found water in the foam of the seat and in the carpeting. I have a tear in my top but have like a hundred pieces of duct tape covering it up. I'm thinking that water is going down the side panels of the body around the base of the convertible top like it's supposed to, but is not draining out the bottom of the car like it's supposed to and is collecting in the car. I can hear sloshing when I drive. So my question is where are the drain holes in the back of the car for the water to run out and how do I unplug them? Can someone post a pic of the bottom of the car or make a drawing showing where the body drains are?

like the title says every time it rains it becomes a tropical storm in my car help. I was told that its my weather strips and they are adjustable im not sure how to do it without breaking something any advice for me. The water seems to come in around the top where the windsheild is and only when it moves any suggestions or advice id totally apprieciate it.:coy:

I have had the same problem with mine and I used scotch guard to water proof the top itself. Then if you really wanna seal things up tight I used and eigth of an inch thick black wheather stripping which I bought from Ace, or Home Depot and relined my windshield and top latch. For me it reduced most to all of the leaking I was having to deal with.

what type of scotch guard bc this is really becoming a problem i really like the car and it is my daily driver for now. Im trying to give it the tlc it needs bc i dont want to get rid of it now. I know as soon as i fix it i probably wont see any rain LOL :)
