Hey, I'm in the market for another turbo... I cannot decide what turbo to go to, and my thought processes keep going in circles. My mods are up to date in my profile. I am looking to make 600whp now, hopefully more in the future. I am also trying to figure out if I want to go ts t4, ts t3, regular 4bolt t3 or stick with my fp manifold... HELP!!!

EDIT 1* I drive my car around 16k miles a summer and will be taking it to the track almost every weekend...
EDIT 2* I RUN E85 ALL DAY EVERY DAY DURING THE SUMMER!

If I were to buy a new turbo I would be going with the PTE. If you are just looking at a fun street turbo that will net you some good power and 1/4 mile times you could also look into the BW turbos. I'm not much of a fan of Holset turbos on our cars, but they do get the job done. My vote is for the 6262, but if I were to pick out a PTE turbo I would go with a 6057, cause it spools up faster then the 6262 and makes the same power on pump gas from what AWD Motorsports have found.

Here is my current mods...

I RUN E85 ALL DAY EVERY DAY DURING THE SUMMER!

1st gen bov (crushed)
K&N Air Filter
FMIC(3.5x8x28in core)

Forced Performance Race Manifold
E85
New mitsu. crank
Eagle rods
Wisco 8.3:1 pistons
1mm oversized ss intake valves
.5mm oversized evo exhaust valves
BC valve springs and retainers
BC 272/272 cams
DSM Link v1(soon to be v3)
AEM UEGO wideband
Turbo timer
TRE stage 3trans, Rip Grip lsd inserts
megan racing shortshifter
act 2600lb clutch
act flywheel and street disk
megan racing coil overs

I will be upgrading the following while putting on the turbo;
Intake manifold
Throttle body
better intercooler
shortroute piping
Tial bov
Exhaust cutout running out near bumper

i would go with a pte6262 t3 .82ar.its a good street turbo and will make your hp goals

ROFL Its not called leaving its called having a life.

Anyways.......I would recommend a billet PTE 6262 over the HX-40.
Price is around $900 which is what you would pay for a bolt-on Holset rebuilt.

Take a look at all PROVEN 9sec Evos/DSMs runnning the 6262 as to where i dont see any Holsets in the same ring

Paid $665 for my new HX40 including the BEP T3 housing. Of course this was over a year ago, and the prices have gone up due to demand (yep, there is enough DEMAND for Holsets that it's driving the price upward)....but not to the tune of $900 for a rebuilt turbo.

Post #8....a new record. I figured it would've taken much longer for you to vomit the "results" bullshit all over this thread.

Im sorry, i didnt know proven facts was bullsh*t?? I thought BS was when people say "it can" "it could" "it would" like i hear in all the :tease: Holset threads

Its kind of true, with all the info given and bench racing about Holsets, I have yet to see any real results with them. Don't get me wrong, a couple guys have put down some nice track times, but I'm not impressed by dyno numbers and never will be, or what someone else is doing on a whole different platform. I've been interested in Holsets for a while and at one point owned a HX35 which I plan to grab another and maybe run one day in another car, but for now I just need more info, and by info/results I am talking track..

As mentioned before, I'll have to agree on the "proven" performance comment. The 6262 is a much more responsive street turbo, and from comparing dyno numbers, which is about all you can do with an HX40 the 6262 has a far more impressive power curve.

The only beef is the price, and if that isn't an issue then I say go with the 6262.

Hell, I've been interested in running a HX55 sized turbo but its hard to find one running, better yet, even installed on a car. Numbers thus far aren't any more impressive than whats on the market per se, and I don't know about you but I don't want to run a -12an + oil line and be paranoid about how long my turbo will last. But there is always still hope I assume so I'll keep checking up on the holset threads and hopefully it produces something fruitful. I'm on their side, but I got to be a little realistic at the moment.

Would a run of 11.9 on a HX-40 be comparable if it was only at 23psi,boost leak,Missing 4th gear completely and running lean with almost stock tune? On a 1 g
And holset turbos are really efficient at 25+ psi, especially the bigger hx-40
Just a question

i agree with this guy.i will gladly run my 6765 up against any holset turbo at the drag strip

I love the Holset turbos and have very good results on my gsx as well as my buddies talon....

That being said, I agree that there's alot more solid evidence of solid ETs with 6262 and other PTEs like it. I'm sick of the the "this holset "could/should/will" run xx.xx nonsense. I love the potential and affordability of holsets. Buts its hard to fight the price of 900 bucks for a brand new turbo, you know? I'll run my holset until goes or I get to a point when its not enough =)

Just my 2 cents

I was thinking the same regarding how many of your posts in similar threads normally follow one of my posts closely, yet your posts never speak of anything technical...just links to posts of what others have done with a certain turbo. I can do that too, with various platforms from all over the world:

838hp hx55 Volvo 850 turbo
865hp hx55 Volvo 242 turbo
619 hp hx40 Toyota Supra MKIV
575hp hx40 Saab 9000 turbo
568hp hx40 Saab 9000 Aero
550hp hx40 BMW 525 turbo
506hp hx35 Volvos S40
500hp hx35 Volvo 740

Thank you for posting a link to a plethora of sponsored shop cars with unlimited budgets. If I were one of those guys, I'd probably be using a FP / Turbonetics / PTE turbo myself. It must feel good knowing that no matter how many turbos you kill, there's always another one in the trailer.

Sponsorsed, shop built, stickers everywhere, and put in top magazines. Then a image is spread to everyone saying that there product is what YOU want, buy into what you want, but take a quick look into reality. Thats how all major companies thrive, and also why RICE grew up so rapidly.

I love it when people say look at john shepherd or AMS they run this turbo and run 7's. Who gives a shit that is shops that have a dyno anytime they want, can spend thousands of dollars in parts. Gsxkid81 is comparing apples to oranges. What real shop has tried to PUSH a holset to its max? If no one buys a turbo and try's it how are you going to get RESULTS? If (you) have never had a turbo how can you bash it or tell someone not to buy it? If the op wants a real and unbiased opinion ask someone who has ran both turbos!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly the point on how the economy works. All firms try to scale the economy and do whatever they have to do maximize their sales holding a differentiated control. FP, PTE, etc... are solely doing autocross, racing and that types of stuff but Cummins Holset holds totally control over the truck industry.

I just cannot believe this is happening again with the same people in these arguments about saying PTE is so much better. Let us keep the Holset to a down low so it remains cheap for us because the HX40 did the job and now my HX52 is showing real strengths all of which I paid $500 for.

As for the the OP, if you really want a legit answer do the research. Check out the Holset Results or look at what badman21's results of 685hp and 584tq.

i made 426whp@25psi on a pte5031 bolt up.i have installed 3 hx35s and the are only making whp in the 420s so i am not impressed.the guys spent just as much on the holset setup and could have installed a lager pte turbo and made more hp.as far as being reliable that 5031 lasted for 45000 mile before a friend bought it off me and is still running strong on his car.i have no complaints with pte.you can buy a new pte turbo for the same as a new holset turbo.

I went with a BW turbo over both of them because I've had good luck with my first one. If you are looking for 600 whp, then an "S362" aka an S300SX 83/75 (60/83mm compressor) will get you there as well. It is rated to ~69 lbs/min and comes with a variety of turbine housing options.

Did the Holset guys read my post and purposely run the same beaten path following their typical responses..

More dyno queens, more numbers on cars not of our platform and more excuses as to why a specific car didn't run right... how long ago was that run, and why hasn't it been improved upon or at the very least, duplicated??

Again, pissing in the wind. Lets see some proof. All this shoulda coulda woulda and the people posting it aren't taking any serious steps to improve on the situation or finish a build and run it themselves... *sigh*

Oh and I know Pat personally, owner of the white Evolution and we have ran together and against each other and I have personal been there for the ups and Downs and can assure you that that isn't some high dollar shop car. Its a DD street car showing what this thing is capable of.

I'll be posting the HX52 results in the Spring time, but just interested on how you have the BW S400 setup on what does spool happen.

this should go along with the AWD spyder someone posted earlier on the dyno making 603awhp. he went to the track around late September, so the weather would have been maybe mid 60's at night for a low??

"Full weight, 6 bolt 2.0, awd swap, hx 40 pro @30psi, jmf drag smim, hks272's, 800cc meth inj, rc 1000's, walbro 255, crower rods, wesico hd 8.5 pistons.

1st time out,
1st run - 13.5 @ 113
2nd run - 12.4 @ 119
3rd run - 12.4 @ 120
I went home, made some adjustments on the shifter, tuned the car and went back
2nd time out
1st run - 12.7 @ 122
2nd run - 11.8 @ 126
3rd and best run played out as
60ft -1.99
330 - 5.19
1/8 - 7.70
Mph - 99.55
1000 - 9.85
1/4 - 11.66
Mph - 126.14

The only adjustments I made at the track were lowering tire pressure a bit, minor fuel adjustments, and lowering lauch control. I kept the timing conservative, maxing out at 20* up top around 75-8000rpm. So far everything has been working out great with the car!"

I hope one day I can sign on and not run into all this bitching about what's better, etc.

I'm just happy we have all these options available for our cars. I can remember days when you wanted a certain power level it was slim pickins' for turbos. Now days, there is a plethora of choices.

I have to agree with what someone said above, what shop/person has pushed one of these (holsets) to the n'th degree. I don't see holset throwing turbos at shops/top racers, etc. Like some other manufacturers may do.

If anything I find it fun to research them, see how people modify them, see what they can do, etc. all for a small investment. It's not fun reading he said, she said threads on what ones better.

Depending on set amount you are looking in the 55-6500 rpm range for full. But the s400 doesn't compare to the 52 which is a smaller turbo. The HX52 is more along the lines of the s372 which spools ridiculously fast and has held more records and awards that any other turbo in its class in a relatively short time out.

But we aren't comparing the Holsets to the BWs

Iill start off by congratulating you on great times but your times show one issue. A turbo so many swear spools like a 35r but puts down 4294r numbers and is the size of a 40r, your times are on par with a typical 30r at a similar boost if not worse.. we keep seeing these cars squating on the dynos but when do we see the good stuff? Again I applaud. The devotion and all the sweet talk sounds good but I just want some results so I can run one myself.

I understand what your saying based on these #'s however I would chk out the Holset results thread because I've seen way better #'s than these posted there. I also know of a Honda Civic that ran 11.00 at 134mph with a HX40 ,with a 16cm2 turbine housing with open mani.(yea I know a Honda)
This example posted is definitely not the best ex, of what I've seen guys post concerning their 1/4 mile times with Holsets installed.

Im kinda surprised that some of the guys with the better #s have not posted here yet!
