After getting feedback from my other post : http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=196925

Ive decided to go with the OEM cf hood and hatch on my tsi. I however also read i would need hood pins because if i didn't it would Quote from someone else on dsmtuners "Bite me in the ass or front winshield". I have no idea of how to even begin to put hood pins on? I'm new to the Rice seen. I drove a mustang before this and would never dream of putting carbon fiber on. But for some reason i love it now. Ive searched for a thread on hood pins but can find one. Google just leaves me with links to buy hood pins.. Any help guys. O ya. Do carbon fiber OEM hoods come with hood pins holes or not? thanks guys.

Edit: o ya i did find this but i need directions in idiot terms?

no...the hoods do not come with holes for the pins. try searching google for "hood pin install"
im sure you will find something...........
:dsm:

Yeah, the hood will not come pre-drilled for the pins. If you dont feel 100% comfortable drilling into carbon fiber, I'd recommend taking it to a professional body shop. They didn't charge that much for mine.

Here's an old thread about the placement of the pins. I have a few pics in there that might help you if you decide to tackle the job by yourself. :thumb:

take it to a shop... wow its hood pins people

Easy to install. Put your hood pins in your core support where ever you want them. Then put toothpaste on the top of the hood pin. Gently set the hood down on top of the pins. When you lift it, drill where the toothpaste is on the underside of the hood. When drilling CF use a small bit, then work your way up. Don't start with the biggest bit, or your going to crack your CF. This is so easy, don't sweat it.

Im going in to get my hood pins done tomorrow. Now I want the pins in the outer edge of the hood. I dont want them not mounted on the radiator. I looks like if i drill in above the lights it will go through the lights. Do i have to take out the lights then drill the holes, screw in the big screw and then cut the bottom of the screw off to fit the lights back in? I think thats what Im going to do if no one has any other ideas but let me know. Thanks.

Awesome. Thanks dude.

Anyone know if its illegal to drive without headlights in the day cause im taking mine off tonight and driving to van nuys tomorrow morning. Its about a half hour drive on southern california freeways.

i did mine without taking out the headlights... it's not that easy if you have really fat fingers and go nuts with the drill, but if you are REALLY careful you can do it. for mine i drilled into one of the dimples above the head lights... it was a pain, but it works well so im happy.

if u get pulled over just tell the cop some truck backed into your car and ## going to the shop to get it fixed right now

Well I dunno about there...but i see people driving around without bumpers all the time here...their usually civics or something like that...

Whare are the thigns that clamp onto the hood to keep it down right? their silver and look circular...what are they?

I've read a few threads that scared me into getting hood pins. I've ran with my ViS carbon fiber hood for about a year with no probs, but I hardly ever take it over 100mph, but I have. :sneaky: Last thing I want is a broken windshield.

What are good hood pins to use? I've looked around and haven't found a great quality one yet. There seems to be so many no-name pins all over the place, yahoo, ebay, ect. The only ones that 'seem okay' are the Hayame and Sparco. Found some bad reviews on some of them though. What should I get? And how hard to install? Can I do it myself or should I take it to a body shop? Thanks for looking, any help is appreciated. :dsm:

they're not too hard to install if you take your time and make sure you do everything right. the holes in the hood have to be pretty exact or they won't fit in right. what i did was install the bolt part first and then put a dab of paint on the top and shut the hood so that they touched, that way you know exactly where to drill the hole.

I hate the hair pin style hood pins that I have. I originally bought the locking hoods pins when I went to pick up my hood from Orlando (4 hours from here) and since it was on a short notice I didn't have time to get any Sparco or sparco style hood pins. I called 2 local shops in Orlando and they said they didn't have any. After finding out that the locking hood pins suck and could not get aligned properly, I went to autozone and got these crappy ones.

I can't get sparco hood pins because I am going to have 4 holes in the hood where the screws are. Any ideas?

I found this on ebay, but I how does it lock? and which way does it go? The same direction as the sparco ones?
