I am getting the VIS carbon fiber hood, and was considering getting the hood pins, but does the VIS hood require the hood pins or not. Also if anyone has experience with the VIS hood, could you please give me the heads up on if the hood fades or the durability of the hood. Thanks

i never understand this question when people ask it... if you pay 400-500 bucks for a CF hood wouldnt you WANT to buy hoodpins for another 20 bucks just in case?? i mean why spend 400+ bucks on a hood and has a POSSIBILIY of flipping up at highway speeds... shattering the hood, cracking your windsheild, damage other body parts, and even the possiblity of you crashing and killing yourself, so for the love of god, GET HOODPINS :thumb: they look pimp anyway :D

...actually i thought that the hood pins didnt go to well with the hood and the rest of the car, because it doesn't give you that sleek and clean look...well anyway im going to get the hood pins and protect my investment:thumb:

i know a guy who has an 11 second mustang and once after he ran the hood broke off and hit the windshield, and it was a good thing he had a helmet on.... it was scary

there is a lot of debate on this.

yes they are good safety backup.... HOWEVER.. I have had mine for 2 years with multiple track runs and I do not have hood pics nore will I put them on... i have a VIS hood. On a knockoff, I had to run them..

you should have seen that mustang i mentioned earlier, the whole windshield was shattered. i videotaped it somewhere but i have no way to transfer it to my computer.

Here's a pic of My VIS hood. I had it painted to match the car, so I cant offer any input on it fading or not. But, I would never install a carbon fiber or fiberglass hood on any car w/o pins. They dont look bad, they actually look good on the car. And it sure beats ruining your hood and windshield. My VIS hood fit great and required no modifications.

Yes, that is my car in the pic
. It WAS a VIS hood. PUT ON FVCKING HOOD PINS

There is a label on the VIS hoods that says" Hood pins recommended" This is their way of covering their ass if your hood blows off. Do yourself a favor and get them. I lost a hood once, luckily no damage to my car, but the guy behind me had some damage. :( Fortunately I knew the guy behind me.

ok i plan on getting a VIS CF hood soon. i am not running the risk of my hood flying up when im going 70moh down the highway however, so worst comes to worst, ill get hoodpins, but are there any other methods of securing a aftermarket hood instead of hood pins? i mean, you cant beat the cleanness of a hood without them and thats kinda what im going for, but im not taking the chance of ruining a 400 hood + windshield or even my life. yes i know many of yous have cf hoods, even steel reinforced hooods, but still, any other possibilities?

Someone posed using Dzus fasteners, but I don't know if it ever got past the "what if" stage.

Then again, it's been a long time since leather straps were in fashion. Maybe you could start a trend.

Or, maybe not.

I'm in the same boart.

I'm guessing though only other way would be to make another latch or something.

The only problem is how you attach the latch to the hood. With most CF hoods the latch is just glassed onto the bottom of the hood. A little wind gets in there and that fiberglass isn't holding and BOOM the hood flies up. Unless you could find another way to secure the latch to the hood without having like screws sticking up through the top, hoodpins are the way to go.

Took only one day out of the shop for this to happen. Can finally take pictures and tell everyone how important it is for you to have hood pins on your cf hood. My last hood I put them on and I finally decided to get a VIS evo hood. Put it on and I was on my way to A-Class body to get an estimate on the car. Drove a half hour away and my hood flew up. Was latch all the way down and it still decided to come up doing 50mph getting on the turnpike. Glass flew in my face and made small cuts on face. Luckly I had glasses on so I wasn't blinded, just couldn't see and it was about to rain. Made it all the way home (I know the risk). Just wanted to share my experience.

How many stories like this will it take to get people to use pins...

Sucks to hear/see that. Besides the smashed windshield, I must say, your car is pretty damn cool looking :thumb:
