Hey guys, I'm getting a carbon fiber hood real soon, and no doubt in my mind I will be getting hood pins to go along with it.. after all the horror stories of them flying off.. i don't want to take any chances..

now which hood pins do yall recommend? is one better than another? I see several different choices.. i am looking for one with locks that has a key to unlock it..

and for those who have hood pins, post pics of your hood pins.. :thumb:

does anyone here know where i can get the type of hood pins that locksa and needs a key to unlock???

the reason why im asking because my car was recently stolen and the bastards too kwhat they can unbolt out of my motor...all they was the stuff they couldn't unbolt and the turbo and motor anything else was pretty much gone

i got a viper alarm with a built starter kill switch but thats not enough i want to make they can't get under my hood so if anyone knows where i can get a pair it would be greatly appricated.... :thumb:

Getting a VIS Racing OEM hood. What hood pins are the best and where can I get them? Please let me know. Thanks

autozone..... =) carbonfiber circular piece with locks.... they're niiiice :dsm:

i have hood pins already and i am thinking of converting over to the lock and key type hood pins. i was wondering if anyone has them, if they can post some pictures, and their experiences with them. i have a 2g and so the contact area where they go through the hood is going to be at an angle and i was wondering if it is going to work, or if you need a perfectly flat hood in order to be able to use them. thanks.

I bought them, tried to install them, then ended up with normal ones.

There is no room for error on those like there is with normal hood pins. Like you said, it's even harder with a slanted hood. In order to get them to work you will probably have to have the underside part at the same angle as the hood. Which will be tough to do.

Also, you can't use them as a primary latch. So if you are going to put them on a carbon fiber hood they won't work. The part that actually holds the hood down is the diameter of a toothpick.

yeah, i wouldnt use them as the primary latch, only as a secondary thing should my hood latch fail when im driving. i guess ill just get carbon fiber scuff plates made, then get new pins and put clear rustoleum on them and find a different sort of lanyard for the pins. damn, those things would look so clean if only they were easier to install...

ok well my buddy with his evo 8 got backd into today by some dumb chick in a jeep. smashed the whole hood up .. not too abd but its creased up. so he talkd to the mom and she would rather not go through insurance and my firend had a accident before and the hood with paint was around 1100. cuse hood had to be shipped from japan. so he told her about a cf hood and it would be cheaper. so she said if he gets 2 quotes on a stock and if the cf is cheaper she'll do it. so we found a cf hood for 500. which we know will be cheaper then the stock cause the stock hood alone was like 850. so my friend was looking at hood pins for the cf cause weve read about alot of cf's flying up on people. so i found some on summit racing with those cables that come out and i have a question before we order em in next couple days. these are the pins:

my question is. how/where does the bottom of the cable connect to? the end without the clip.like ive see in pics how it loops around and under the hood and toward the long pin itself but i dotn see how it connects under there. any one that know can you please explain and anyone with pics of these kind of pins would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Rather bizarre, since they were made here

The end of the cable loops around under the hood to the car, and attaches pretty much anyplace you like. So the cables get to scratch the hell out of wherever they cross the hood.
