They really didnt even design it that way, it was a factory f*ck up. They put the motor in the car, went to shut the hood and said "shit, thats not good" Just like the little triangle things on the Stealth and 3KGT hoods, those are only there because the strut tower was too high and the hood wouldnt fit. Im sure there are tons more, but thats all i know about

Ha, yah they must of been on a tight schedule and didn't have time to change the engine or hood during the TEN YEAR run of DSM's. You know how them automotive companies like to blindly throw engines into vehicles w/out sizing out the dimensions first.

Hell, I'm sure they don't even use math or engineers, they just throw a car together with the spare parts laying around. What else will explain the 3g eclipse??

The hump is there to clear the cam gears. There is really no way to get rid of the hump without cutting a hole in it to clear it.

there is the ViS Invader hood for the 1g that doesnt have the bump. Go to www.andysautosport.com, then hoods, mitsubishi, 90-94, and you will see 3 different types of hoods i think.

no, only on the 1.8

If they make the hood that way then buy and see how it doesnt fit. It WILL fit a 1.8 non turbo and nothign else. The only way to do it would be to have the entire hood make a bulge in that area, or get one of those hood with all kinds of vents and crap like that.

Anyone seen this piece for sale? Obviously you have to install it into your own hood but is the piece custom as well or is it the little vent for sale somewhere. I've only seen it done once or twice so that leads me to believe it's completly custom. I like it though and it probably does a good job of cooling off the engine bay(and fogging up your window on those cold days)

that little piece of plastic costs $70 from www.roadraceengineering.com in the rally section, which is where that picture originated

I got the picture off of their site but it as off one of their race car pages. I didn't see it for sale. Anyways, $70 is steep for something it probably costs $10 in materials to make. Unique though...

a gst has the same motor setup as a gsx and yes it would goto the t-belt cause the air intake is located on the passenger side of the ridethe hump is on the driverside keep in mind that a gst is a turbo dsm that is front wheel drive

ive seen it setup on the front of the hood now that looked bad ass dual ports right over the exhuast and turbo
